I woke up to my mom and Carter's conversation.
"...she's fine, Mom, she's just been stressed from school and stuff."
"I just worry about her. She doesn't talk to me like she used to. I miss her, Carter."
"I know, Mom. She still loves you, I promise."
"Thank you, baby."
"I love you, Mom. More than anything."
"I love you too, Carter."
I pretended to wake up before I heard anymore of their conversation. Ever since my dad left the house, Carter tried to step up and become a better brother and a better son. Now all I see is him sucking up to mom.
"Morning honey. Did you sleep well?" My mom put her arm around me and gave me a kiss on the cheek. She didn't reek of alcohol anymore at least.
"Yeah. It was good." I leaned into her hug. "Do you know when we're getting off?"
"Yes, in a few. Also, Carter and I found this cute little breakfast cafe on the island. We should try it." She said excitedly.
"Yeah, that'd be nice." Hopefully my mom can stay sober through breakfast. I looked down the aisle towards Harry's seat but it was empty. I turned towards the restroom, thinking that maybe he was in there. During the 8 hour flight, I'd saw Harry use the bathroom twice and he was usually in there for a while.
I felt my family begin to gather their things so I thought I'd do the same. As we were getting off the plane, I looked everywhere for Harry but I couldn't find him. How was the plan supposed to work if the whole person who the plan is based around, isn't even there?
Once we were in the airport, I decided to use the restroom, clean my face, and brush my teeth. My hair was fucked from the night on the plane so I put it up into a bun and dabbed lip gloss on my lips.
I walked out the restroom and right into a guy who had their back turned in front of the door.
"Excuse you? I mean, people do walk out of this door." I said, annoyed. Who stands in front of a bathroom like that?
"Sorry, guess I didn't know where I was standing." He turned around and suddenly I was staring into Harry's green eyes again. I immediately felt embarrassed about being rude. He, however, seemed fine, like he was enjoying it.
"I didn't...um...know that was you." He was staring so intensely into my eyes that I had to look away or I felt that I was gonna combust right there on the spot.
"I knew it was you." He said. I looked up to see him smirking down at me and my heart skipped a beat. Remember the plan, Zari.
"How did you know it was me? You're not like a professional stalker or anything, right?" I said, giving him a soft chuckle.
"I am, actually. I've been following you around since you left your house to board the plane. I've been given very specific instructions on how to kill you." His smirk turned into a cold expression that gave me chills and I couldn't tell if he was being serious or not. I guess my face gave away how scared I was because he threw his head back and laughed.
It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. His hair bounced with every laugh and his eyes revealed crinkles beside them. His dimples, which I hadn't noticed he had, deepened. I stood there and watched as he laughed and pulled himself together enough to lay his hand on my shoulder, his other arm gripping his stomach.
"I'm sorry but you should've seen your face."
"You're sick." I said, shrugging his hand off my shoulder. I didn't understand what game this dude was playing, but I was not interested in participating. "I'm serious about my question. How did you know it was me?"
"If you really wanna know, I'm just that good at remembering voices. Yours in particular, actually." He already knew what my voice sounded like? We had barely had a conversation.
I glanced over at my family reading maps. I guess my mom hadn't found how to get to the cafe yet so I still had time to ask questions.
"Did you come here with anyone?" I asked.
"No, I always fly solo. I never needed anyone." I didn't know if the sentence had more to do with him than it was flying but I didn't ask any more about that subject. "Why are you so interested in me?" He took a step closer. "Do you want to get to know me better?"
"I-I...was just was curious." His voice had gotten deeper and I could feel the warmth radiating from his body. I wanted so badly for him to grab me and push me against the wall.
"I'm curious about you too." He took the bottom of my shirt in between his fingers and pulled it up just enough for my skin to peek through. He leaned his face down towards my neck and I could feel every breath he took. I tilted my head back and let my mouth fall open in pleasure.
"Please." I whispered. I just wanted him to rip my clothes off and- wait, what the fuck was I doing? I was in a public airport with my family just feet away from me. I pulled away and took several steps back from him. "I have to stop."
He looked at me, concerned.
"Why's that?"
"My family. And the fact that we're literally in a public airport."
"That's never stopped me before. And you look like the type of girl to-"
"Well I'm not." I said, slightly louder, cutting him off.
"I didn't mean to upset you. I just thought that was what you wanted." I glanced over at my family again. My mother was still looking over the map while Carter eyed me worried.
I did want Harry. I wanted him so bad but this wasn't the time or the place.
"What's your phone number? I'll text you later." I offered.
"I don't have a phone." What kind of person doesn't have a phone in the 21 century?
"You don't have a phone?"
"I don't need one." I was about to ask why he seemed to not need anything when I was interrupted by my mother.
"Zari! We found the cafe!" My mom shouted at me across the way. I smiled and gave her the thumbs up.
"Looks like you've got somewhere to be." Harry said, eyeing my family curiously.
"Yeah." He looked back at me and smirked.
"I'll be seeing you later, Miss...Zari." He winked and turned, walking away towards the exit. He didn't have a bag or anything with him. I wondered if he lived here already and he had came back from visiting somewhere else. But why would he visit without a suitcase?
I walked back over to my family ~still in shock and dripping wet over my encounter with Harry~ and our adventure to the cafe began.
