I rubbed my eyes as I sat up from my small cot, hay slipping from my dirtied clothing as I grumbled tiredly. It was early, and Kuiil was already up and feeding the Blurrgs. I brushed the hay from my lap and slipped from the very uncomfortable bed I slept in. I stood and ran a hand through my dirty, knotted hair.
I shook my head, stray strands falling into place in front of my eyes. I huffed grumpily as I heard squeaking approaching from behind. I turned.
"Hmph. Good! You're up! Took you long enough!" J-3PO stated, her robotic blue eyes shimmering. J was once a notable 3PO unit serviced to the Rebellion. However, I got ahold of her before she was put out of use.
I snorted, and approached the small mirror that was strapped precariously to the tent roof. I used the fabric of my shirt to wipe off the glass. I maneuvered the ribbon that was tied on my wrist into my mouth as I held my hair in a bun.
"J, what have I told you about bursting into my room like this?" I asked, my voice muffled through the ribbon. I could hear J grumble from behind me.
"Not to. But-"
"Ah! No but's, J! No, means no." I stated, tying my hair up as I turned to face the white droid.
"Fine. But Kuiil sent me to wake you." She stated, turning to leave my tent.
I smiled to myself and shook my head. "Yeah yeah, I'll be right out."
After slipping on my old pilot fighter jacket, I laced up my boots and headed outside to meet up with Kuiil.
Kuiil took me in when I was just 12, after my parents had left me on this dry, desert planet. I'm grateful he did, otherwise it's likely I'd be dead. Farm work wasn't the best, but I'd trade farming for life any day.
"Kuiil! Sorry if I slept in. Stayed up late last night feeding the Blurrgs."
Kuiil turned to me and said nothing, but turned back to unlock the pen for the Blurrgs. "We are going wrangling today."
I nodded and helped to open the gate as my Blurrg slipped out of the pen.
My Blurrg had no name, as I feared attachment in case she was killed. Instead, I simply stuck to Blurrg.
I mounted her, and waited for Kuiil to follow. "J-3!" I called out to my droid friend as she exited her tent. "Keep watch! We'll be back soon!"
And with that, me and Kuiil were off. It would take quite a while to reach the herds of Blurrg that migrated the valley, but I didn't mind. I enjoyed the silence, the quiet grumble of the Blurrgs we rode. I enjoyed the blue skies and even the mischievous Jawa that inhabited the area.
But I longed to leave the planet. Explore. Encounter danger. Experience the galaxy. But that would have to wait.
We were approaching the herd area, when I noticed a ship in the distance. An old one, pre-empire if I knew my ships. Which I most certainly did.
"Kuiil. A ship." I state. Kuiil narrows his eyes at it. "Should we approach it or-?"
"Not yet."
I nod. Kuiil rarely spoke to me. When he did, I simply respected him, for I knew he was much wiser than me.
A person, clad in Mandalorian Beskar armor, exited the ship, holding some sort of tracking beacon. A bounty hunter.
I narrow my eyes, and we both sit and watch his movements. He holds the tracking device, before being caught unaware by a Blurrg. They don't like to be interfered with and they will attack if provoked.
Obviously, the Blurrg must have noticed the hunter's rifle.
I rolled my eyes at the man's carelessness. "Should we help him yet?" I ask, as a second Blurrg bounds her way towards the unsuspecting bounty hunter. Kuiil nods, and him and his Blurrg begin trotting towards the Mandalorian, his dart gun aimed at the first Blurrg.
Kuiil takes the shot, the dart landing in the Blurrgs side. I pull out my own gun and aim it at the approaching Blurrg. I shoot, and it impales the Blurrg in the side. I kick my Blurrg with my leg and we trot towards Kuiil and the Mandalorian.
"Thanks." He states, as he removes his arm from the Blurrg's mouth. He examines his device's condition through his mask. I tilt my head at him.
"You are a bounty hunter." Kuiil states, his Blurrg moving from side to side.
"Yes." He states, twisting his head to look at me now.
"I will help you. I have spoken." Then, Kuiil turns his Blurrg back around without another word. I send a smile towards the bounty hunter.
"Come on, we'll get the Blurrg later." I state, my Blurrg trotting closer to the hunter. I reach a hand down to him.
Reluctantly, he takes it and I pull him up with a quick heave. "Come on, get on."
He stares at me, before shaking his head. I frown. "You have to get back to the farm somehow, come on." I nod behind me.
After a few minutes of waiting, he finally climbs on behind me and I kick the side of my Blurrg gently as she turns and bounds back down the hill after Kuiil.
Hope you enjoyed the first chapter! I am IN LOVE with The Mandalorian and obviously, you must be as well if you're here lol. Anyways, these chapters will be fairly short. :D
