Katie...
I rush home. I don't bother to put in my headphones like i usually do. Instead I just run home ignoring the pain in my ribs. It doesn't take me long to reach my house. I hurried and unlocked the door to get in. Once in I slammed the door behind me and ran up to my room. The whole time the pain was just getting more and more intense. By the time I reach my room I'm in tears.
I lay on my bed on my back careful not to agitate my ribs and cause more pain. I know I'll have to drive myself to the ER soon but I don't want to do anything right now. I just want to fall asleep and never wake up. I dint think anyone would miss me. Heck it would take until my body started to stink for my mom to notice.
I lay in bed for a while longer. Trying to gather enough energy to get up and drive myself to the ER. I eventually do. When moving i hiss, groan and cry in pain. It hurts like hell. But once I'm up it's not too bad. I slowly make my way down the steps and out the front door. I dig my keys out of my pocket and unlock my car. I get into my 2010 Toyota Prius and drive the 10 minutes to the nearest Emergency room.
I walk in and give them my info. I'm so thankful I'm 18 now because they no longer need my moms permission to treat me. I'm taken back to X-ray where they take a closer look at my ribs. After about 10 pictures I'm taken back to my room. There a nurse comes in and does my vitals and asks how I got injured. I easily lie and say I fell down the stairs at home. She gives me a pointed look. She can tell by my bruises and what is broken that I'm lying. But she doesn't press the issue.
Not long after the nurse leaves the doctor comes in. He tells me that I have three broken ribs, 2 fractured ones, and that my sternum is severely bruised. So they wrap me up to help set my ribs in place and prescribe me something for the pain. I don't know what it's called but it works because when they gave me a dose before I left I didn't feel any pain. I was able to drive to the pharmacy and home without once flinching in pain. But once I got to my bed and laid my head down I was passed out. I guess these meds also make you sleepy. I fall into a dreamless and peaceful sleep. It's the first full nights rest I've gotten in a long time.
