This one was in a Defence Against The Dark Arts class about Boggamorphs, or Boggarts in the original lore. They have no true form, but will take the form of the creature looking at it's worst fear. They can be dispelled with the spell Riddikulus and by imagining the Boggamorph as something funny.
I personally consider this the worst of my stories, but it got an E+ (equivalent of a B+), so whatever.
I carefully stepped along the muddy path, making sure I didn't fall in any of the puddles. I had just gone down to the bakery to fetch some bread, but to my increasing dismay and irritation, it had started raining and I was anxious not to end up with wet bread.
Just as I rounded the corner, I saw it. A gigantic monster, rising from the puddle with claws outstretched and mouth open to show rows and rows of sharp, grimy fangs. Forgetting my bread in my terror, I scrambled back, desperately reaching for my wand, I pulled it out and fired spell after spell, anything I thought would work best against it, but nothing did.
That was when I noticed something weird. It had a vaguely kraken-ish body, but wings like a dragon and legs like a giant spider. That wasn't normal anatomy, nor was it anything I had learnt in Defence Against The Dark Arts classes. Surely it would collapse under it's own weight...?
There was one spell that might work. I conjured up a picture in my mind , a picture of a small dog toy with bulging eyes that I, for some reason, had always found hilarious, flicked my wand in the best U-shape I could manage, and cried, "Riddikulus!"
Immediately, the beast changed, getting smaller and smaller, from a huge monster to... the small dog shape. I couldn't help myself: I smirked at it.
It gave me the most baleful glare a small stuffed dog toy has ever given anyone in history, and disappeared in a puff of smoke.
It was only then I realised that I had dropped the bread in a puddle.
The moral of this story? I'm not sure, but 'Don't drop your bread in a puddle' is a rule I'm sure we can all live by.
