Chapter 3: Better Off
Nimbly my feet went across the wooden floor of the hallway. Getting to the front of the door, I slipped my boots on. I swiftly went to the kitchen
and shoved whatever food or snacks I could fit in my bag. Before finally walking out the door I had to steal. Steal money from my father.
Going back through the hallway and in my room, I grabbed change and the rest of my dollars out of my drawer. I proceeded on walking through the dark, thin, hall and came up to my dad's bedroom door. My heart began to beat rapidly just by me barely touching the knob. I placed my fingers around the sphere that let you through the room. My sweaty grip turned the knob carefully, finally making the door crack open.
I hesitated before taking a step inside the room. I braced myself each step I took, getting closer to my dad's dresser. The dresser which lay upon it was his torn up wallet. I snuck up closer to the dresser and turned my head. My father was in his bed, sprawled out and snoring like a choking walrus. Turning my head back to the wallet, I quickly grabbed it and hurried back to the door. I slipped through the opening and closed it. Once it was closed, I ended up gasping while I leaned on the wall.
After catching my breath, I stared at the wallet and opened it. There was about 30 to 50 bucks in there. I left 10 dollars in it and set it on the ground by my dad's bedroom door.
Making my way to the front door, I grabbed everything and opened the door. My eyes glistened at the sight of white everywhere, the moon shining, making sparkles in the snow. It was about 4: 30 A.M. I walked out of the house almost ready to scream of joy. Wind blew past my face, making me feel fresh and awake. The dark morning felt warmer than usual winter mornings. Smiling, I took my steps off the porch and felt like a new beginning. I kept walking on.

I came up to a brick house. Going over to the side of the house I stared up at the window that was placed there. I bent down and picked up several rocks. Making direct eye contact to the window, I threw the small jagged rocks. They hit the glass, clanging against it. When I saw the lights turn on, I cupped my hands over my mouth.
" Kelly! " I exclaimed in the most quite possible way.
Kelly came over to the window. She looked down at me with her dark, brown, bird's nest that she calls hair covering half her face. She made the motion of as she was moaning. She budged open the window and lifted her fist in the air.
" What in the hell are you doing!?"
I sheepishly smiled, but then bent my head down to show that this might not be good news for her. She just stood by her window, waiting for an answer.
" I'm, um, going to be leaving..." I said looking back up at her. She tilted her head and curved her eyebrows.
" Ok, then. Good, go get some sleep." She said waving her hand to the direction of my house.
I shook my head slowly, " No, I mean I"m leaving town. I am going to go find my mother." I watched as Kelly's eye brows shot up to almost the top of her head. She covered her gasp by slapping her hand over her lips.
She hesitated before she spoke again. " I"ll come with you!"
" No, I don't know whats going to happen and I don't want you to possibly get hurt. Plus you have your life here. Your mother would be so worried if you weren't here." The words came out of my mouth as I glared in her eyes. She frowned, making her bold eyes glare back into mine.
" Lisa, you can't do this. Your going to starve, get raped, beat, and killed. Your going to die." Her pupils grew bigger as the words slipped out of her throat, " I doubt your going to find your mom. What if she doesn't even want you! That's why she left you and your dad, right? She doesn't want you!"
