Passports, Plane Tickets, and Keys
--"What is he doing?" I hear faintly. Ugh. Why can't they just leave me alone?
"Watching his stupid boyfriend." Sage huffs. She doesn't understand the partial truth to that sentence.
"It's Christmas Eve." Tyde says angrily.
"Yea, he doesn't care." Sage sighs sadly. Tyde's reply fades as they walk past my room.
I sigh. Then look back at my phone screen. Tyler Oakley's smiling face stares back at me.
He doesn't know I exist and I am positive that we are soul mates.
"Troye!" I hear someone yell. I'm betting it's my dad. I curl up even farther. I hate being around my family. They don't understand.
"Troye!" My dad is stomping up the stairs. I put my phone down and pull the blanket up to my chin, faking sleep.
"Troye Sivan! I know you are not asleep. Come downstairs, we are opening gifts. I will take your laptop and phone away." I know I'm beat so I sit up. I tromp down the stairs after my dad.
My family is sitting waiting on the couch, they all have gifts. Mum hands my dad a present as he sits down. I sit on the floor next to the couch and sigh as my Mum hands me a present. I hate Christmas. I absolutely despise it.
"You guys know the drill." My dad says. We all look to Tyde. He smiles and opens his present. Inside the wrapped box is a box that is filled with artist supplies. Special pencils, paper, paint, paint brushes. The lot. Tyde practically squeals. He is obsessed with art. He has tried to make me model for him, he wanted to paint me, yeah, he learned his lesson. Next we look to Sage. In her very sparkly wrapping paper is a shoe box. She opens it and she does squeal about the shoes.
My parents got them both something they are obsessed with, so what will my first gift be? Everyone looks at me, and I immediately look at my present, hating the feeling of their eyes on me.
I open the box, and on the top is a passport. Okay, so far so good. I move some of the tissue paper aside and there is a plane ticket, then I move more and on the bottom is a set of keys. I look up to my parents.
"Did you-is this actually-but I-I'm gonna throw up if this is what I think it is."
"What do you think it is?" Mum asks cheekily.
"Well obviously it's a plane ticket to L.A., a passport, and a set of keys. But I am not sure what the keys are to." I say, looking at the three objects in my hands. Well, five or six, if you want to count the three keys.
"Those are your keys to your new car, and apartment." Dad says.
"What?!" Sage shrieks.
"How is this fair?!" Tyde yells.
"Are you serious?" I am stunned, "When? How? Why? How? What?"
"Steele found this place, he and Amy did." I look to my older brother.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" I rush, "This is amazing!"
"We know you have always dreamed of living in L.A. so we wanted to make it happen. We figured the best time is now, you are turning twenty soon. We figured it would be best for you." Mum says, smiling, yet tears are in her eyes.
"Don't cry Mum, you will make everyone cry."
I could not have been happier with my presents. My parents gave me a new pair of headphones, a new cell phone, a new camera so I can take better pictures, and a bunch of beanies and snapbacks.
Tyde gave me a pair of converse sneakers. Sage gave me this extra long phone charger that I have been wanting for forever. Steele and Amy gave me furniture. They showed me pictures of the apartment, it looks amazing. The colors of the kitchen and living room are gray, dark blue, and a muted yellow. The bathroom is green and gray. The bed room is much like my bedroom here, dark blue, grey, and little fairy lights everywhere. The office, really just and extra room that I won't use, is decorated in red and gray. It's very exciting and I feel really grown up.
My parents told me I would be leaving in January, on the twelfth of January to be exact. They told me that I should start organizing my things now, so that way when the boxes come I am ready to pack everything up.
This is so exciting.
