"Class, this is Miss Chameli"', said Chitu.
"Good morning Miss Chameli! ", the class chanted
Miss Chameli smiled, and she actually looked quite pretty to Yamuna up close. Her eyes were a soft shade of brown and her pointy nose actually made her look delicate and petite.
"Good morning children, I am so happy to be here!", she said, "Do you all know why I am here?"
She spoke as though she was speaking to children not more than five years old.
Ganesh raised up his hand, " Are you our new teacher?"
Miss Chameli laughed, her laughter sounded like the tinkle of bells.
"No, dear I am not going to be your new teacher",she replied ,"Though if Chitram does not mind, I can consider co-teaching with him"
Chitu blushed, "You can come anytime", he said
Karu rolled her eyes, she did not like Miss Chameli and she did not like the way Chitu was sucking up to her.
"Anyway, moving on,lets get straight to the point", Miss Chameli started,"I have come here to ask you all a question, have you ever heard of the sea having feelings?"
The class began looking at each other and smirking.
Karu rolled her eyes
The sea having feelings?
"That is a myth Miss Chameli", said Rajan quietly.
"Oh no its not my dear," said Miss Chameli," We think ourselves all high and mighty and ignore the knowledge that our ancestors passed down. The people of today are so scared that they shun away all things they think might harm them and give them as myths to their children. All we are worried about is getting enough food-"
"No offense Miss Chameli but I think worrying about food is definitely rational given that our population is increasing by ten percent every year and land is obviously scarce",said Krishnamurti, pushing his glasses up his nose,
"Yes but imagine what we could do if we could control the sea using its emotions! Think of all the possibilities."
"Won't controlling the waters be awfully mean?", asked Bear
"Why would want to be mean to the sea? Its our home!",said Ganesh
"The bigger question is, how can something that doesn't even have a mind, have feelings?",asked Krishnamurti,
Karu rolled her eyes. Again. "The bigger question is, what is Miss Point Face"s point?", she whispered to Yamuna.
Yamuna remained silent through all of this mayhem. She wasn't really paying attention to class. She was actually day dreaming about how a pineapple would look if it had Miss Chameli"s face. She almost never was paying attention in class, she enjoyed farming more, running through the farm island and laying down in the sand. Though Miss Chamel''s idea had caught her attention at first, after reflecting a while, she thought it was complete codswallop and prefered spending her time imagining Miss Chameli"s pointy face on different fruits.
The class was still arguing when they reached the farm island, where Miss Chameli''s jet ski was parked.
Chitu thanked Miss Chameli on coming and sharing her insightful question with them and hoped that she would come to visit them again some time.
"Why thank you Chitram", she replied,"And children, I am sure that this conversation has left you all a little wiser on the subjet of our waters."
Karu raised her hand."May I ask te point of your visit Miss Poin- er - Chameli?"
Miss Chameli looked surprised, she smirked and said, "Just to know how many people know the truth. Goodbye!"
She climbed off the boat onto the island, leaving the class still figuring out what she had meant with her last sentence.
