Longstride opened his eyes, groaning a bit as the medicine cat, Laurelfoot, squeezed cold water onto him. "Oh good, you're finally awake. Windstar's been worried about you."
"W-what..? Where is he..?"
"Don't get too excited, now. You were knocked out for a bit."
The ginger tom sat up. "I don't care, where is my father?"
"Fine. I'll bring him in in a moment, alright?" The white she-cat grumbled a bit to herself as she set down the moss she had, walking outside.
Once she was gone a black and white she-cat came in. "Hey, Longstride."
"Hey, Badgerpelt." He smiled a bit at her as she sat next to him.
"What happened while you were out? You were exhausted when you came into camp."
"... well..." Just then, Windstar ran in. The calico tom rushed over to Longstride.
"Are you alright? What happened?! Did you get hurt?!"
"Calm down, Windstar. I'm fine. I have a message for you, though."
"What is it?" Windstar sat down next to his son, grooming his fur as he spoke.
"Well, I saw three rogues in the forest and one told me to tell you to prepare for battle..."
Windstar's fur rose immediately as he stopped grooming Longstride, his eyes widening. "FireClan must have sided with rogues! We must attack immediately before-"
"They didn't smell like they were from FireClan! Let's not jump to conclusions."
"Oh no, what if they found our secrets and are going to kill us all?"
"Father, calm down. Everything will be alright, I'm sure. StarClan is on our side." Longstride brushed his tail along his back to reassure the leader, sighing to himself as he looked down at the old tom. Windstar sighed, nodding. His voice cracked a bit as he spoke, still in the middle of his freak-out.
"A-alright..." His voice was quiet. He didn't make eye contact with Longstride, just standing up and walking out of the medicine den with Badgerpelt in tow. She smiled at the ginger tom before leaving, making his pelt heat up a bit as he goofily smiled after her.
It was then that he realized Laurelfoot had seen this.
"Badgerpelt, huh? Never expected that."
"W-what? It's not like that, Laurelfoot!"
"That's a lie and you know it, Longleg."
"Why does everyone call me that?!" He huffed, flexing his claws a bit to calm himself down. He just imagined scratching up the deputy. It didn't really help, but it made him smirk a bit at least.
"So, she's the lucky she-cat?"
".. yeah, I guess. But don't get any ideas!"
"Oh, alright, alright." The medicine cat snickered before going back to sorting herbs. She usually only sorted the herbs for no reason when she was thinking, so Longstride groaned a bit, faceplanting into the moss bed he was laid on.
"Well, since you're alright you should get going now. Lots of sick cats, lots of injured ones."
"Yeah right... eh, whatever. See you, Laurel-name-makes-no-sense."
"Well, that was a stretch, wasn't it?"
"Yeah.. I should go now."
"Please do."
Longstride grumbled to himself as he left, Laurelfoot watching out of the corner of her eye. The white she-cat giggled to herself, planning how she would try to play matchmaker like she always did.
