Chapter 1

It was monday, the last day of summer. Back to Willowstone Public School. I had turned eleven last week, so it was the start of 5th grade. I sighed. I had also finished the last of the Harry Potter series, The Deathly Hallows. Those were now ranked in my top ten list of Really-Great-Books-to-Read-Ten-thousand-Times. 'Course the books weren't real...

Mom was driving me to School Badges UK. We bought my binder and pencils there, because all the other supplies ran out. Finally around 14:00 Mom said that I had to go change so she could take those dumb first-day-of-school pictures. She wouldn't let me do my own hair because mom thought I did my hair to messy.

When I came down stairs so my mom could set up my hair, my dad came in with the mail. "There's a letter for you, Anwen." he called. Hmm. Odd. I never usually get mail during summer break. I have no friends. I snatched the letter out of his hand. I opened the letter.

Dear Ms. Baker, We are pleased to inform you that you have a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on 1 September. We await your owl by no later than 31 July.

Yours sincerely,

Deputy Headmistress

I snorted. Probably just a prank from my nemesis, Oralie. She had punched my nose to find my address until I told her. "Keep reading," My mother prodded. I sighed.

I scoffed. "Anwen, do you believe this?" my mom said. "No." I breathed. "Yes. I don't know. It could be a trick from Oralie." "I don't think so." my mother said. "Whaddya mean?" I asked. My mom was already reaching into her purse, and a long, slender stick came out. A wand. My mother was a witch. Oh my God. My mother was a witch.
