The rest of gym class went by pretty fast since we didn't do anything else but watch other teams play. The most interesting game was when the actual volleyball players played against other volleyball players.
About 5 minutes after the final game ended, the bell rang dismissing us, and letting us know we could go home. We all went to our lockers to put some books away. After I had closed my locker door I heard the popcorn noise that an iPhone makes and I saw both Andrea and Cynthia look down at their phones.
"Oh Em, we've got some good news," Cynthia said still looking at her phone. I made a hmmm noise letting her know I heard and allowing her to continue.
"We're practicing on the field with the footballs players today, our coach just sent us a messge," Andrea exclaimed.
"That's cool. Hey, if you guys want I only live about 10 minutes from here so we can all go to my house to get some food and change," I replied.
"That sounds good to me," Andrea said looking at Cynthia.
"Sounds good to me too," Cynthia said smiling at me.
We then said our goodbyes to Mitchie and Beth and then piled into my truck.
I turned the engine on and cranked up the music and we sang the whole way home.
After 10 minutes we arrived at my house and we got out of the truck laughing. My dad's car wasn't in the driveway so I'm guessing he didn't come home, he usually doesn't but you never know. I put the key in the lock and pushed the door open. I showed them to my room where they could drop their stuff off. We went back down to the kitchen and I grabbed some glasses and filled them with water and grabbed three bananas from the fruit bowl and set everything on the table. We all sat at the table just making some small talk for awhile till Andrea asked a question.
"So, what's it like being around all those buff guys all day?" She asked me finishing her banana.
"It's fine. They don't like me and don't want me there but I'm there to play the game, not to just gawk over them," I replied.
I started to drink some of my water when Andrea started to talk again.
"Mmmmm, I see," she said lifting her eyes at me. "So what's going on between you and Harry?" She asked making me choke on my water. I saw a smirk appear on her face.
"Wh-what?" I finally asked after I caught my breath.
"I've seen the way you two look at each other, and your playful arguments, you guys like each other."
"Oh no you couldn't be farther off, he can't stand me, he doesn't want me on the team, he wants nothing to do with me," I quickly replied.
"You both stare at each other with so much thought and you carefully examine each other. And I've know Harry a long time because of my brother and he doesn't look at girls like that," she said taking a sip of her water.
"Didn't you hear what he said in gym today? He said one of us is going to get hurt and it won't be him, that doesn't seem like something someone would say to someone they like."
"Harry might seem, or try to make himself seem tough but he's not as tough as he seems. He's a softie and he's such a great guy. He would never hurt you, especially not on purpose. Dude he likes you, mock my words you two will become something!" She said satisfied.
I was about to reply when Cynthia finally chimed in. "I hate to intervene but if we're going to make it to practice on time we better get going." I looked at my phone and saw the time, crap. We all chugged the rest of our water and put the glasses in the sink, we finished our bananas and threw the peals away. We each went in a different room and got dressed, once we were all done we ran out of the house, piled into the truck and took off. After 10 minutes we were there and we hurried to the field. When I got to the benches I put on my cleats, took my water out of my bag, and threw my bag on the bleachers. I started stretching when the coaches came on the field.
"Alright everyone, we're going to do some suicides then we'll split up into offense and defense and practice some plays so everyone line up," they said while walking towards the bleachers. Everyone lined up and we started suicides.
We did suicides for about 30 minutes and then started plays. The coaches said that offense and defense were each going to practice 5 plays. It was now towards the end of practice and we had already went through 4 plays and they had all went pretty smoothly. But this was suppose to be the hardest one with the most steps. We got in our starting positions and Coach Johnson blew his whistle. The play went all according to plan, everyone went where they were suppose to go, I drove in the middle of the offensive team to try and get the ball from a tackle but little did I know that Harry was doing his own thing. My eyes looked to the left and I saw a blue jersey running towards me (the blue jerseys are the defensive team) I turned my head and then the next thing I knew I was in the air and then hitting the ground. Harry kept on running till Coach Johnson blew his whistle, Harry then stopped in his tracks and threw his helmet off.
"Why the hell did you blow the whistle? This is our final play and we were almost done, you know I have places to be..." Harry started yelling.
"Maybe if you didn't tackle your own player we could all be on our way home," Coach Johnson yelled back gesturing towards me getting off of the ground.
"How and then hell was I suppose to know she was on my team?!" He asked getting angrier.
"Maybe if your blind ass would open your eyes then you'll realize we're wearing the same color jersey, dumbass. And besides we are both on the defensive team" I shot back.
"Just because you're on the team doesn't mean you're on my team," he said getting closer to me.
"This isn't your team, it's the schools. And maybe you can be a good team captain by actually following the plays," I said walking towards the bleachers shoulder checking him. That didn't stop him from talking though because he started walking behind me.
"Maybe if you weren't a girl then maybe the team would be better and you shouldn't be so damn fragile," he said making me stop in my tracks, I turned to look at him and he was smirking. I started walking towards him and got right up in his face.
"I am the opposite of fragile, I'm stronger than all of you put together. You don't know what I've been through. Just because I fell to the ground when YOU TACKLED ME that doesn't make me fragile. And maybe if you weren't such a shity captain this team would be better. Maybe if you went by the plays I wouldn't have been on the ground. MAYBE IF YOU WEREN'T SUCH A JACKASS YOU WOULD SEE THAT I'M AN ASSET TO THIS TEAM. AND MAYBE IF YOU WOULD OPEN YOUR DAMN EYES YOU WOULD SEE THAT YOU DON'T SCARE ME AND I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE!" I yelled back leaving him speechless.
"Alright everyone I can see that you're all exhausted so we're gonna call this a night but I wanna see Harry and Emma here 30 minutes early tomorrow," Coach Johnson said dismissing us.
I walked to the bleachers to put my normal shoes on when Cynthia and Andrea approached me.
"Are you okay? That was quite a tackle," Cynthia asked.
"Yeah I'm fine, it was nothing. But I do have a throbbing headache," I replied rubbing the back of my head.
"Do you need anything?" Andrea asked.
"No thanks, I'm just gonna go home and relax, take some medicine and just try and enjoy the evening," I said plastering a smile across my face.
I soon got up and made my way to my truck. I soon pulled out of the parking lot to head home, and I soon arrived home. I got out of the truck and unlocked the door and headed to my room throwing my bags on my bed. I went into the upstairs bathroom to open up my medicine cabinet to find my pain medicine with only one pill left. Shit. I then looked at the clock on my phone and saw that the grocery store was still open for another few hours. I quickly changed my clothes into some sweatpants and I plain t-shirt with a messy bun. I then hurried down stairs to see my dad just walked in.
"Hi dad," I said kissing his cheek and grabbing my keys and purse.
"Didn't you just get home? Where are you going?" He asked chuckling.
"I'm making a quick run to the grocery store. I have a headache and I'm out of medicine," I explained to him.
"Was it from the tackle Harry gave you today?" He asked raising a brow. I rolled my eyes just by the mention of his name. "You two need to get along or we're not gonna win anything. You guys are such amazing players, it would be a shame if you guys couldn't play this season." He noticed my shocked face, but smiled tenderly. "Don't worry honey, after you two get to know each other everything will be fine. Oh can you pick up some things for dinner? We don't really have anything here, and you can choose whatever you want."
"Sure, no problem dad," I said with a soft voice.
"Thanks honey," he said kissing my head. "See you soon."
"Bye," I said grabbing everything and leaving the house.
I soon arrived at the store walking in. I grabbed a basket and went straight to the medicine section throwing in a couple bottles of my pain medicine. I then made my way to the food isles deciding what would be best for dinner. I tried to think of something fast and something easy. Spaghetti. I went to get the noodles, some spices, ground beef, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, fresh basil, and then some fresh tomatoes. And what's spaghetti without cheesy bread, it's my favorite, I went to grab a couple baguettes, a couple sticks of butter, a few whole garlics, a few onions, and then made my way to the cheese isle. I was looking for the perfect blend of cheeses when I saw him. Harry. He noticed I was there and started to make his way towards me. I just ignored him and picked up a bag of shredded cheddar cheese, and a bag of shredded Monterey Jack cheese and threw them in my basket.
"That's a lot of food for a little girl now isn't it?" Harry asked smirking.
"Not like it's any of your business but it's for me and my dad," I said giving him a fake smiling and still looking for another cheese.
"Ah you and your dad, what about your mom, doesn't she eat?" He asked with a smirk.
I just moved passed him and picked up some parmesan.
He then moved in front of me again, "Ah I found an emotional subject now didn't I?"
I was reading the bag of cheese when I looked up at him, "Don't ever mention my mother again." I said putting the cheese in my basket and making my way to the isle with the drinks.
"Hey hey hey you don't have to be ashamed that you don't have a parent, my dad's not around anymore, but I have a pretty cool step dad," he said walking up next to me. I didn't say anything. "Anyways I'm sorry I tackled you I should have looked at your jersey," he sincerely said.
I smiled. "It's fine, I'm fine," I replied.
"But if you weren't a girl you wouldn't have gone down that easy," he said chuckling.
"It's been amazing talking to you but I need to get home, so I can start cooking," I said sarcastically throwing two liter bottles of soda in the basket.
"Hey don't be such a bitch I apologized!"
"You call that an apology? You just brought up the girl thing again so goodbye," I replied.
"Yeah go and cook your dinner, that's where you belong, in the kitchen," he replied triumphantly.
"You know I think you keep bringing up the girl thing and trying to put me down because you're threatened by me, that's it you're threatened," I said looking back and smiling triumphantly walking to the check out counter.I soon arrived home took my headache medicine and started making dinner. About 45 minutes later the food was done and I had served it on the table. I was exhausted and I made plenty of food to last for a few days. My dad came out and took his food to his room, which he does quite often, but it's only because he's working on something in there. I ate at the table, alone, just scrolling through my phone and listening to music. I soon finished and did the dishes and headed upstairs. I took a long hot shower, just letting the hot drops of water roll down my body. After I had finished with my shower I brushed my teeth and hair and delt with my face and headed to my room where I proceeded to put my pajamas on. I cleared my bed and set my alarm for 30 minutes earlier than normal. I then laid down and stared at the ceiling not wanting to fall asleep because I knew what was going to happen. But it was unavoidable because soon my eyes were shut and I was drifting off to sleep.
