I hear the sound of a trumpet and drums rising in the air as the castle became bigger and bigger. I jump out of the carriage and stare at the stunning view I have in front of my eyes. I walk slowly through the path that leads to the entrance. A giant garden surrounds the castle which seems as high as though it can touch the sky. On top of it two huge towers are covered by light grey clouds ad if they are paint brushes cancelling a beautiful painting ruining its million shades of the blue horizon.

'Hurry! The king and queen hates people being late!" says Caroline in a half evil-smiling face. What's wrong with that girl?! She's so irritating! She thinks she's the best, most-beautiful girl in the world. Her long blonde hair seem to glitter in the sunlight. Nothing like my messy medium-length brunette wavy hair! She's so perfect she could be mistaken for a noble woman!

As we enter the castle I notice the lines of soldiers one behind the other leading us to the main saloon where King Henry and Queen Catherine sat on their thrones. We take a step backwards and almost hit our heads for the deep bow we took. "I'm sorry for the delay, I had to bring my soldiers and-" "Silence!" The loud and deep voice of the King echoed the hole castle. It entered through my ears like a worm and made me shiver. "I don't like poor people. You know that Charles. Especially if they don't behave as I demand!" says the king to Caroline's father killing every chance of finding an excuse.

"This is your room" says the servant opening the big door of my room. A scent of roses enters in my nostrils and through my clothes. A giant bed stands in the middle of the room. The sunlight enters through a little window making the floor and the wardrobes shine. I move my head from one shelf to the other, all perfectly arranged. "It's amazing!" I say out loud looking at my ripped dress and then the room at the same time.

"Tonight there's the royal ball. Be ready by 6 pm." "But how should I dress" I ask to the servant looking at her with hope. "Look inside the closet there are plants of dresses there for all occasions and ring this bell if you need my help" said the servant in a soft voice putting the bell on top of a table near by bed. I look at her face. She must be some years older than me but not much. She is taller than I am and her ginger hair is straight and lucent. "What's your name?" I ask as politely as I can. "You won't need to know my name I'm just your servant".

3 hours later, 1 hour before the ball

I look one more time at the mirror. The image of a girl with a long sparkling gold dress light in her hips loose on the legs. Her hair once messy now neat with curls hanging on her shoulders. She's taller,  crystal shoes perfectly wrap her feet making her feel confident. Jewelry all over her fingers, wrist and a diamond necklace making her face shine. A perfume of roses mixed with talcum creates a shield of beauty.

"You're perfect" I say to myself still unsure that that beautiful figure was me. All these years thinking I was just the ugly duckling and not realizing I was about to become a beautiful swan.
