A GIRL NAMED YUMEKO JABAMI
part two
"JABAMI-SAN! Welcome to Year Two, Flower Class." Hearing the voice of one of her classmates, Kira raised her head from her previous position of laying it on her desk. Her eyes caught sight of the back of the new girl's head. Curiosity sparked within her, and she made her way over to the seat, the girls in her class immediately moving out the way, afraid that if they did something wrong to Kira, the president would destroy their lives."You must be the new girl," Kira hummed, softly sucking on the lollipop in her mouth. She moved to sit on Yumeko's desk, facing the girl. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Kira Hoshimi; I hope we can be friends."
Ryota listened in on the conversation happening behind him while the girls in the class whispered to each other softly. The two in the middle ignored them. They didn't care about the rumours or the words said behind their back. It never bothered either of them.
"I hope we can be friends, too," Yumeko replied, her lips curving into the shape of a crescent. There was something about the way she smiled, the way butterflies seemed to escape from the pit of her stomach. Something about the beauty in front of her ignited a feeling within her that Kira had never felt before. It was warm and tingly, something that she only ever felt the first time she met Kirari.
As the two continued to stare into each other's eyes, the rest of the world fell silent to them.
They never saw the looks of pity the girls were giving Yumeko, knowing that the president would ruin her life just after transferring to the school. They never heard the whispers of how their friendship would fall as quick as rain falling from clouds. They ignored everything surrounding them. All that mattered was the genuine emotions and warmth blossoming in both their chest.
The sound of a chair scraping against the floor harshly brought the two out of their thoughts, and they both looked towards the blonde girl, who wore a smile that held no warmth behind it. "Nice to meet you! I'm Mary Saotome. I hope we can be friends." Kira always had a distaste for Mary. She was horrible at lying.
"I hope we can be friends, too, Saotome-san," Yumeko said, her expression gentle and soft.
"Are you free after this, Jabami-san? Would you like to gamble with me?"
Kira rolled her eyes, placing her weight on her arms that held the side of the desk.
The dark-haired student could see the truth behind Mary's eyes. She was jealous that Yumeko became popular right after transferring, and she hoped to beat her in a gamble she was obviously going to rig.
When Yumeko agreed, the students quickly piled in and set up for the game.
"What kind of gambling do you have in mind?" Kira stared at the new girl; she was delighted. Yumeko's smile stretched further across her face, eyes lighting up like stars in the sky.
