Act One, Scene One

"BAD BEAT"

EXT. Urban Neighborhood
Mickey drives through a neighborhood to Johnny's Place to play cards. He has a white 1982 Buick 4 door and drives through a rough urban area before arriving at Johnny's. He parks on the street, center of a wide shot and enters the house through the garage. Some security camera pov shots of Mickey entering the house and walking to the game room.

INT. Johnny's Place.
A large suburban house with an attached garage. The game room inside is large and almost lounge-like. The lighting is focused over the table leaving the rest of the room dimly lit.

Mickey enters the room and notices Johnny on the telephone. He then notices the normal drink boy had been replaced. Johnny ends his phone call and Mickey continues staring at the new drink boy.

Mickey:
“Who's the kid?”

Johnny:
“New guy. Guess Gus was out sick, so they sent him.”

Mickey:
“What's your name kid?”

David:
“David, sir.”

Mickey:
“You a cop David?”

David:
“No sir.”

Mickey:
“You working for the cops David? Huh? You undercover F.B.I or Some shit?”

David:
“No sir.”

Mickey:
“You know how to make a Manhattan Skyscraper, David?”

David:
“Yes sir.”

Mickey:
“Well make me one, and go easy on the fuckin ice.”

David quickly makes the drink and approaches Mickey with it. Extending his arm toward him.

Mickey:
“Set it on the table ya' fuckin moron!"

David sets the drink down and Mickey grabs him by the back of the neck and wrist, pulling one of his arms behind his back. He pats him down the front and sides.

Johnny:
“ Quit fuckin with the kid Mick, He checks out. Let em’ go and let's play some fuckin cards huh?”

Mickey releases David and he returns to his drink cart, while straightening his uniform.

Mickey:
“I'm just having fun with the kid, no harm done.”

Johnny:
“Well it’s your bet and I ain't getting any younger over here.”

Johnny and Mickey finish their hand and David stands back at the drink cart. A short time passes.

Johnny:
“So, you still filling that hole down on Park Street Mick?”

Mickey:
“The girl can't get enough of me J. She's got a pussy like crack, I'm addicted. I'm losing money taking her off the corner 4 times a night, for a little taste."

The two men laugh, but fall silent after a few seconds. Mickey lights a cigar as Johnny breaks the silence with a soft spoken question.

Johnny:
“Don't it bother you, ALSO tasting each cock she's had that night before you?"

Mickey:
“Nah, I make her jump in the shower at the motel, and scrub her clam clean before I even touch her. She don't mind though, her apartment building is a shit hole and doesn't have clean water. "

Johnny:
“Jesus! Well, it sounds like you're doing the broad a real service there Mick. Who knew you were such a humanitarian?”

Mickey:
“I sure as fuck didn't.”

Johnny:
“Keep it up and you'll be Mayor Mickey of whore city in no time.”

Mickey:
“Hey I got the key to the city right here for you buddy."

Mickey grabs his groin and the men laugh. Johnny checks and raises Mickey's bet. Mickey matches the new bet and they reveal hands. Mickey wins, as Johnny was bluffing his hand.

Mickey:
“You should know better than to try and bluff a politician. Ha! Let's have a round of drinks, I'm buying.”

Johnny:
“I've had enough. I'm going home, before you take my wedding ring."

Mickey:
"Just the one then kid. Don't keep me waiting and you might walk outta here with a nice tip.”

David started making the drink before Mickey was done talking. The focus is on Mickey collecting his chips from the table while David makes the drink in the background. David finishes the drink at the same moment Mickey gathers his last chip, they face each. With Mickey's drink in David's left hand, David plunges his right hand into the ice bucket and pulls out a 1911 handgun. Points it at Mickey and shoots him twice in the chest and face. David points the gun at Johnny and shoots him once in the head. The shooting happens very quickly and the scene ends with David with his arm extended after shooting the two men."

END SCENE
