What went wrong?

What did he do wrong?

That's all Kageyama had to ask himself.

Everything was a blur, his mind was growing fuzzy.

His coach was trying to talk to him. Something about teamwork.
He heard none of it.

Was it his fault?

He just wanted to win.

Why was he being penalized?

His mind couldn't wrap around the ideas. He could barely even see. Something was blurring his vision, streaming down his face.

Everyone assumed it was just sweat.

They were tears.

Nobody knew Tobio had cried that day.

Not even him.

Kitagawa Daiichi ended up losing the match.

Kageyama just felt soulless and stayed behind the longest.

They had no manager so he cleaned up their area himself, leaving him to his thoughts.

The team didn't care though.

He deserved it.

And when they were leaving,
Kageyama claimed he had something to do for his mother and opted to walk home instead.

Nobody really knew that his parents were working overseas and hadn't been home in years.

As he walked home, he was sinking into the void of his mind

He almost forgot about reality

The team was just glad they didn't need to see Kageyama until school again

But their coach was concerned for him

Kageyama waddled home safely somehow, and tumbled into bed

He didn't change, just collapsed into a sobbing mess on his bed

Inhuman screeching, pillows and books scattered across the floor, his room a mess and barely intact. Just like his heart

He laid there for a while, staring up at the white ceiling, counting the stars his mother had placed there when she had been home for the last time

She placed them there for him to count to help him calm down

He'd always had anger management issues

Kageyama Tobio wondered that day

Wondered if he should have ever touched a volleyball

Wondered if he should have ever joined a team

Wondered if he ever should have bothered Oikawa

Wondered if he should quit the team

He dozed off while his thoughts whirled in his mind, but he had no doubts with his next move

He'd quit the volleyball team.

Kageyama ended up passing out soon after, sleeping until 11 the next day, a Sunday

The rest of the team were still a bit disappointed at the loss, but blamed it all on Kageyama.

They met up the next day, not inviting Tobio, and got ice cream together, as a way to comfort each other in their loss but also celebrate their victory over Kageyama

They had wanted to show him up for the longest time, and they finally had

However, what he did next made them almost regret their decision.

Almost.
