Kindaichi stared at Kageyama in confusion and disgust.

He perceived it as Kageyama being ungrateful for his help

In reality, Kageyama had no idea why Kindaichi had bothered to help him despite resenting him

"I only did it because the nurse told me to," Yuutarou mumbled, looking away from Kageyama

"Oh. Okay."

Kageyama had sounded like a small, lost kitten, weak and broken

They sat in silence as Kageyama's eyes continued to stream with tears, when he suddenly asked

"Do you guys hate me, Kindaichi?"

Kindaichi couldn't take it anymore

"Of course we do! We've been fed up with your stupid behavior for months now! Do you have any idea how much we wanted to just punch you to make you shut up?! Like seriously! You practically ruined our team ans ruined our fun!"

Kindaichi was practically fuming at this point

"A-ah, I- mm... Okay..."

Kageyama turned away and stuttered whatever response he could think of

He was soaking it in, realizing that his efforts to make them care about volleyball and want to win led to this

'its always been your fault. You should just leave.'

That was all that replayed in his mind, and slowly, he got up out of the bed

He could barely walk, and right as he reached the door, Kindaichi grabbed his wrist and forced him to turn around.

"Where the fuck do you think you're going?! You're in no condition to go anywhere! And you can't even bring yourself to apologize you stubborn King."

Kageyama had had enough.

"THE HELL DO YOU KNOW?! IM SORRY THAT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SOCIALIZE, IM SORRY IM NOT THAT SMART, IM SORRY IM TRYING TO DO WHAT I THINK IS BEST FOR THE TEAM! SORRY THIS SORRY THAT IM SORRY OKAY?!"

Kageyama was screaming at this point as the tears resurfaced and he aggressively began to tug at his wrist, still being held by Kindaichi

"IM SORRY MY PARENTS HAVENT SEEN ME IN 5 YEARS, IM SORRY IM NOT AS GOOD AS OIKAWA-SAN, IM SORRY I CANT DO ANYTHING RIGHT!"

Kageyama had given up on trying to tug his wrist free and collapsed on the floor, a shaky, sobbing mess of the person he once was

Kindaichi was in utter shock

He never thought he'd see the day Kageyama mentally broke down, and he'd learned new information

His guilt overcame his hate towards Kageyama and he squatted down next to Kageyama

He couldn't feel anything, his hands were numb, his face was numb, everything was numb, until he felt Kindaichi hug him

He started to sob all over Kindaichi, who just accepted and began to talk

"I... I know I'm not the best at this, and I know a part of me still hates you, but I hate seeing you like this the most, I've realized. It's okay that you're not good with people, it's okay that you aren't that smart, it's okay that you're trying your best. You don't have to be like Oikawa, you're just doing what you can. I know that I'll probably avoid you after this, but I want you to know that... A part of me still cares, so if you really need someone, you can come to me for it."

Kindaichi smiled slightly at himself, then looked down at Kageyama, realizing he had stopped sobbing into him and that he stopped shaking significantly.

He then noticed how Kageyama looked up at him, eye(s) puffy and red from crying, with the look of a lost puppy finding a new owner.

He couldn't help but smile at that, but smiled even more when Kageyama buried himself into his chest and fell asleep.

He grinned at that as well, picking up Kageyama and placing him back in the bed, when the nurse came back.

She had several hospital workers behind her, who quickly took a look at Kageyama and asked Kindaichi what had happened.

They all looked at each other with concern, knowing full and well what Kageyama had.

They thanked him and took their leave, claiming that they would look further into it.

The nurse told Kindaichi he could go to his club activities once the bell rang, and he did, looking at Kageyama one last time before leaving.
