The next morning, I wake up by a bang as my door swings open.
"Victoria, darling," my mother cries as she and my dad rush into my room. "How are you feeling?"
"I don't know. Why am I here?'
"There was a complication with your surgery. The doctors said that you should stay here to make sure that you recover properly."
"What complication? Am I going to be ok?" I demand as I look between my mom and dad.
"The doctors said that it would be better if we didn't tell you. We decided that we should listen to what they say because they are the ones with the medical degrees," my dad says looking anywhere but my eyes. "They worry it would make you worse."
"But why? How long do I have to stay here?"
"We don't know. Hopefully not long." dad replies. "I hate to say this, but we have to get going."
"What? Why? You just got here." My voice cracks as tears begin to fall. My hands curl into fists and my body starts to shake.
"I know. We love you so much and will see you soon," mom says as she begins to exit the room.
"I love you and stay safe," dad adds as he closes the door behind them.
I stare at the door as my breathing becomes faster and try to calm the panic that is starting to overtake me.
I spend the rest of the day by myself bored out of my mind. A nurse comes in to do vitals and give me pills but she doesn't say anything to me. I fall asleep early dreaming about my family and friends.
