"So, basically all that's left is to sign the dotted line." Mary Ward turns the contract in front of her to face Rory. Rory signs her name and gives Mary a big hug.

"Thank you so much for all your help!" Rory tells her. "I'm so glad to get this taken care of before the baby gets here."

"Of course!" Mary says. "And after you've had some time to recover once the baby is born, we'll sit down again and talk about that book tour!" Rory puts her hand on her protruding stomach and smiles. "Now how about we go get some lunch to celebrate? The restaurant downstairs just got a new chef from Tuscany, and I hear the Ribollita is amazing!"

"Sounds amazing!" Rory says, but makes a disgusted face when Mary isn't looking.

The two women take the elevator to the bottom floor of the Ney York City high-rise. They quickly get a table and look over the Italy-inspired menu. Rory looks up about to say something when she happens to glance at the entrance of the restaurant. "Oh, crap. Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap!"

Mary follows her gaze and sees Mitchum Huntzberger making his way to their table. "Oh my god. That's Mitchum Huntzberger!" She says excitedly.

"Rory Gilmore, as I live and breath!" Mitchum says. He puts out his hand to Mary. "Hello," he says as he shakes Mary's hand.

"Mr. Huntzberger!" Mary says. "It's so nice to meet you!" She looks from Mitchum to Rory. "How do you two know each other?"

"Rory here dated my son in college," Mitchum says. Rory forces a smile but doesn't say anything. "How is our boy doing, by the way? I haven't spoken to him since his wedding."

"I have no idea," Rory says.

"I thought you two still kept in touch," Mitchum says.

"Not anymore," Rory tells him. "Will excuse me?" She stands up to head to the bathroom, and Mitchum notices that she's pregnant. His eyes widen, but he doesn't say anything. "Nice to see you, Mitchum," she says as she turns and sprints toward the lady's room.

When she returns, there's no sign of Mitchum anywhere. Rory breathes a sigh of relief. "I can't believe you know Mitchum Huntzberger!" Mary says, completely oblivious to the awkwardness of the earlier conversation.

"Yeah, we go way back," Rory says. "Now how about we order?"

"It was awful," Rory says as she digs her spoon into the gallon of ice cream sitting on the kitchen table between her and Lorelai.

"Wow, Mitchum Huntzberger," Lorelai says. "Did he say anything about, you know." she points to Rory's stomach.

"No, but he definitely noticed!" Rory says. "It was so humiliating! Why can't I have one instance of running into that man where I don't feel like I'm back in college?"

"Well, that seems to be his M.O.—making others feel small and insecure," Lorelai tells her. "At least you dodged that bullet, and he's not your father-in-law!"

Rory shudders. "Definitely," she says. "I do hope Logan is happy though."

"When was the last time you talked to him?" Lorelai asks.

"When we said goodbye at that little B&B last fall," Rory says. Lorelai doesn't say anything, and Rory glares at her. "You're trying to do the math, aren't you?"

"Well," Lorelai says, but she still looks deep in thought.

"Mom, stop!" Rory demands.

"What? I'm not asking any questions, but you've got to know this is killing me," Lorelai tells her.

"I know," Rory says. "But it's complicated."

"It doesn't have to be," Lorelai tells her gently.

A loud knock at the front door interrupts their conversation. Rory stand up. "I'll get it! Anything to get away from this conversation," Rory tells her mother. She awkwardly stretches her arms as she walks to answer the door. She opens it to find Logan Huntzberger standing on the front porch.

"Hey, Ace," he says as he looks her up and down. "I guess it's true. You're pregnant."

"Is it the package I ordered from Mod Mama?" Lorelai asks as she walks around the corner. "Logan."

"Hi, Lorelai," Logan says but doesn't take his eyes off of Rory.

Lorelai looks from Logan to Rory. "I'm going upstairs for a while," she says. "Maybe for a few days. I might be down for coffee or Poptarts, but other than that, I'm just gonna...disappear." Lorelai walks off, and Rory and Logan are left standing in silence.

"Can I come in?" Logan asks. Rory doesn't answer at first but just stands there trying to figure out what to do. "Rory?" Logan says in his soft, deep voice. "Will you please let me in?"

Rory stand aside, and Logan enters the foyer. "Logan—" she begins.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Logan asks. "Were you ever going to tell me?"

"And what if I did?" Rory asks. "You're married, Logan. To Odette, the French heiress. What did you think you would do? Leave her? Move to Stars Hollow? What?"

"I don't know," Logan admits. "I don't know." He pulls out his wallet from his coat pocket.

"If you try to hand me even a dime of your money, I will throw you out without another word," Rory warns him.

Logan pulls out a business card and hands it to Rory. "It's the name of my financial advisor. I've already set up a trust fund for the baby," he emphasizes.

"You're just so sure it's yours, aren't you?" Rory asks without taking the card from Logan's outstretched hand.

"Well, yeah," Logan says, taken aback. "Isn't it?" Rory doesn't say anything. "Isn't it?" Logan repeats. "Rory, is the baby mine?"

"No, Logan," Rory finally tells him.

"I see," he says as he turns to leave. He pauses with his back to Rory. "I'm sorry I came. I feel like I just lost you all over again." He walks out the door without another word. Rory breaks down into tears. Lorelai comes around the corner and holds her sobbing daughter.

"I thought you went upstairs," Rory finally says.

"Are you kidding? I've been hiding around the corner the whole time," she admits.

"So much for privacy," Rory says. "So you heard the whole thing, huh?"

"I did," Lorelai says. "So Logan really isn't the father?"

"No," Rory says with a sigh. "He's really not."

"Then—"

"Mom, I really don't want to talk about this anymore. I'm exhausted. I think I'll go lie down for a little bit." Rory walks into her room and closes the door.

The phone rings, and Lorelai debates going after Rory before changing her mind and answering the phone.

"Berta?" Lorelai says. "Berta, slow down! I don't understand what you're saying!" Lorelai waits in silence for a moment before the phone slips from her hand and crashes to the floor.

"Mom?" Rory comes out of her room and sees her mother standing there with the phone on the floor. "Mom? What's going on?"

"It's Grandma," Lorelai says. Rory looks at her and picks the phone off the ground.

"Hello? Grandma?" Rory listens and drops the phone in the same manner as her mother.

Both women stand there for a moment and say nothing. Finally, Lorelai shakes her head. "I need to call Luke," she says. "We have to go to Nantucket."
