The Eerie glowing that came from the remains of the broken lamp was enough to put anyone on edge.

They were in the dark figuratively and literally.

The flame no longer had the protection of the lamp's glass to keep it from dying,

Slowly but surely the flame would die out and they would be engulfed by the darkness surrounding them... 

Had it not been for them.

(Name) was their hope, their spark, their flame they were the one who guided them through the darkness, 

They were a bright contained flame that seemed as if it would never go out, and would live forever to love and guide them;

But flames break free from containment and become wild and unruly, burning everything and everyone in their path, until they are put out and cease to burn again.

After all, everything must come to a stop at some point...

Life leads to death,

Hope turns to despair,

Light is engulfed by darkness,

 and flames flicker out.
