⁂ ELEVEN

Quentin woke up to the stifling darkness surrounding him, there was no sound except for the soft breathing of two people...wait, two people?

He cracked open his other eye, raising his heavy head from the soft pillow groggily, and he nearly screamed as he stared at glowing blue eyes that aimed up at the thatched ceiling above them.

His panicked movements must have caught the unknowns attention, because they rolled over almost silently to lock gazes with his frightened stare, him breathing heavily in fright, and flinching away as a metallic arm tugged on his wrist.

"Calm yourself, you fell asleep at the fire." The voice was raw wth a lack of sleep, feminine and his sleep riddled brain briefly struggled to place the voice to a face.

"Feng?" He inquired after a moment, cautiously watching the neon blue eyes fade into the darkness as she rolled over, clicking on the bedside lamp before he could protest, illuminating the room in a blinding glow as he hissed, but after a minute of his eyes burning white, he was finally able to confirm that this was in fact Feng, she was wearing a black long sleeved undershirt, with a baggy blue t-shirt over that.

The unnatural neon glow had faded back into the more natural brown eyes she had earlier, her short black hair still straight, yet slightly disheveled, he could feel his heartbeat slowing down as the panic ebbed away, fading away into embarrassment, as he covered his exposed number tattoo, and (strangely enough) naked chest in shame.

"Nothing to be embarrassed about," She grinned cheekily, and the brunette could've sworn her eyes flashed that eerie blue again, she wiggled back under the covers and that's when he noticed the wall of pillows that separated them, and he snorted in amusement, and then winced as that made his already sore throat even worse.

His eyes squinted tiredly almost to the point of closing, as he tried to lean over her to read the alarm clock, Feng was now pointedly going out of her way to block his sight, which both slightly annoyed and amused him (which he was surprised by), he finally let out a small chuckle, lunging over to lean over her as he read 5:08AM.

He was still weak from the weeks of malnourishment, and the drugs, and he let out a surprised squeak as his arms suddenly gave out and he was practically lying on top of her, and he was most definitely violently blushing at the fact that his face was pressed against her stomach, his hands at either of her shoulders.

Feng went rigid with shock, before shoving him off her with a strangled sound tearing from her mouth as she choked on laughter, hiding her face in her hands.
Well her hand, the black undershirt had ridden up at the sleeves, revealing that her second hand had been replaced with metal that creeped up to her elbow, rough metallic plates overlapping.

He quickly tore his eyes away from her hand, as he scrambled back over to his side of the pillow wall, muttering apologises faster than he could inhale air, and he was forced to stop after he abruptly and violently choked as he wheezed harshly, this sent the asian woman into more hysterics, he felt his eyes water as she thumped his back with her prosthetic hand, the gibberish coming out of his mouth even more unrecognisable.

"What're you tryna say?" She snorted in amusement, and the two both jumped as the heavy wooden door was thrown open with a slam, their laughing must have woken up the animal man, subject Three, as well three other faces his teary eyes couldn't bother to attempt recognising.

"What the fuck is happening in here, do you not know what sleep is?" Jake hissed in annoyance, he wasn't wearing sleep clothes, instead he was fully decked out in his green hoodie and brown cargo pants, looking as if he hadn't slept a wink.

"Having fun." Feng remarked sarcastically, her feet touching the floor as she tied her hair up, "A concept you've never experienced."

Claudette giggled behind Jake timidly, although she offered Quentin a reassuring smile, which he happily returned to his fellow experiment, she looked like she had been walking around the forest, based on the leaves and twigs in her hair, as well as the dirt caked all over her clothes and boots.

"Enough children, now that we're here, we need to speak with Feng, I'm sorry Claudette and Quentin but you need to stay here." Adam commented, both Claudette and Quentin nodded in understanding, Feng gestured for Claudette to take her spot on the bed as the black-haired woman threw on a proper coat and trainers.

"We'll be right outside, our friend Ash needs to talk to you two about something real quick." And with that, everybody except a man who they assumed was Ash was left, he dragged over a wooden chair tucked away into a corner and sat himself at the end of the bed facing them both.

"Quentin and Claudette, right?" He questioned, cutting to the chase as he fixated them with a piercing stare.

"Yes that's us, sir." Claudette whispered lowly, at that the older male tutted in disapproval, "None of that sir bullshit, it's just Ash, okay?" The teenagers both nodded, sharing a bewildered look between them.

"I'd like to know if you two would be up for something, it involves some of the people from that facility, so no pressure to say yes, but my group needs help to take some of their members down, or in for interrogation, we have an ambush of their hideout prepared for two days." They were both silent, so Ash continued, pulling out a tablet from his bag.

"Myself and my team mate Bill will be aiding your friends to take down their group, think about it for a few hours." Ash leaned over and patted them both on the shoulder, before picking up his bag and walking back out through the door, the two remaining teens watched in contemplative silence as the heavy wooden door slammed shut...
