What is this??

Sipher isn't happy. Then again, would you be happy if you spent your entire life running from what you were, only to have five of what you are randomly and unexpectedly drop by?
First there was Blaze, a guy with dark blond hair and brown eyes. He is a canine-human, but he is more like a fox than a blood hound. Are foxes canines? I don't know...
Then there is a girl with brown hair and green eyes, she keeps shifting from foot to foot, uncomfortable apparently. You can tell that this little visit wasn't her idea. Her name was something odd. Dawn? Dusk? Midnight? Im not sure. She is an avian-human too. Like me. not sure how i feel about that but i do feel a strange kinship with her. She has wings.
Another girl by the name of Shay, the first feline-human i ever met, also the one i had tackled in the woods, brown hair also, with blue eyes. She didn't say much, but when she did i could hear the slight accent that reminds me of a purr.
Another nineman that had strange purple hair, and a nose ring. He called himself Pitch, but he didn't stay long. His tail was gray and black, rugged like a wolf's tail. Were canine-humans separated by breeds? The possibility is very good, seeing how avian-humans had different wings, some bigger, some stronger, some with glossier feathers...
The last was a short girl, her blond hair in a pony tail, her hazel eyes always on the floor, but once in a while ill feel like someone is watching me and i glance over and see her look back at the floor. She was another avian-human, which was more of my kind than I've seen in years. Only one or two from the ground as they fly away from hunters. The girls name was Tigerlily, some strange name, but she went by Lily.
The small house we had gotten for a month, by would probably only stay a week, was now packed with admans. All of us congregated in the kitchen.
"We were looking for others to join our pack." Blaze grins, looking at Shay, who seemed to be the leader.
"Pack isn't the right word. Its different for all humans. Non-vancies call us gangs. Dog-boys call us packs, i would call us a pride. Bird-boys would call us a flock." Shay grinned, her eyes flashing bright green, her feline side showing itself, then they were back to blue, and her accented voice continues; "to each their own. But we are still looking for people to join our group. Power in numbers, ya know."
I nod, thinking that if we had more people, we would be able to fight the hunters that try to kill us, but more people means less movement. Give up one advantage for another? That is the real question. Also, my mind seems to whisper, what if just me and Sipher won't cut it anymore? What if the hunters catch up to us, and i lose Sipher too?
Pain at that thought rippled through me, making me grimace. The aviman named Dawn or Dusk or what ever noticed.
"You ok? You look like someone pinched your wing." She gave a shy smile, but her eyes were still tight, she was being careful.
"Im good. Excited to meet so many people, Normans or not." I grin, and she looked perplexed. "Normal humans?"
She laughs loudly, her laugh surprisingly smooth, "you mean non-vancies? Thats what we call the non advanced. But I like your word for it too. Normans."
The conversation had drawn the others closer, and Blaze was grinning, his black tail with white on the tip (is he a fox? Or just a weirdly colored Pomeranian? I don't know..) wagging, and his brown eyes lit up like fireworks. "We have names for all of us. We classify our 'group' as mixies. We don't have just bird boys or kitty girls." He flashes a snarky look at Shay, who's reaction was to just ignore him.
I nod. "Makes sense. You have all three types of admans. But mixies? That sounds like a weird name."
"Hey, its our name! Deal with it because it isn't changing!" Blaze flares up, his brown eyes darkening, and his hands curling into fists.
"Cut the crap, Sam!" Shay pushes between Blaze and i, her hand on his chest and her striped tail flicking back and forth and her nails growing into claws, surprising me.
He glares at me for a second longer, and i ruffle my wings, glaring back. Then he turns and stalks from the house, slamming the door as he goes. I wince as the sound reverberates through the house.
"Sorry, um... Guys." Shay says, looking at me and Sipher, who hadn't given our names yet. "His brother came up with the name, and Zack... Didn't make it."
"Its cool." I say, giving Sipher a 'I got this' look. She nods and steps back to observe, as is out quota for any time we are in company, i keep them distracted and she watches and learns.
"So... Sam?" I ask, curious, in spite of myself. I flash a look around the room at the admans standing in front of me.
"Yea, his name is Sam, but he goes by Blaze because... Someone he loved have him that name." Shay says, looking away.
I nod and look at the others, Lily was looking at the floor again, shay was watching me expectantly, and Dusk? Dawn? Was watching me also. Looks like the decision was mine.
Join a group of admans that are fighting the hunters instead of hiding all the time?
"Sipher?" I ask, bringing attention back to her, and i look at her. She may be only 5 years older than me, but she looked after me well, and she is my family.
"Well, i would have to say maybe. We will have to know more about it. But its your decision to go or not. I'll make mine as well." Sipher nods at me, and i sense her reluctance, but all i feel is excitement.
"Sipher..." I walk over and hook my arm in hers, looking deep into her eyes. "I want to do this." I murmur in a quiet voice, barely audible, so only she could hear me.
Her face, turned away from the others told me everything. If i did this, i would do it alone.
Pain twisted in my belly, and i have her one last pleading look, but she turned and unhooked her arm from mine, disappearing into the next room.
I sigh in resignation, heart aching, but I knew what I wanted to do. What I had to do.
I turn and look at the confused faces of my new group. "When do we leave?"
