IT ISN'T THE FIRST TIME SHE HAS CONSIDERED IT. It won't be the last, either. She finds herself here rather often. Standing on the precipice, wondering if it will be the last time.

She always considers the same methods. Bathtub and a razor, or maybe pills. Something quiet. Simple and fast.

Lilith sits in the bath, hair up to keep it dry, staring down at the water but not really seeing it. She has music playing in the living room and some incense burning. It should be peaceful. But her mind is never at peace.

She wishes she could come clean about all of this. But they'd stick her on desk duty. They'd worry. Lilith hates making people worry, especially friends. She'd much rather just slip away quietly one day and hope that they don't notice her absence.

That day isn't today. Lilith nearly jumps out of her skin when her ringtone blasts throughout the quiet apartment, vibrating on the little table beside the tub. She takes a deep breath and picks up, clearing her throat.

"Kane."

"Hey, I'm surprised you're up." Chloe muses. "We've got a homicide."

Lilith hums. Perfect. Homicides are always a wonderful distraction. "Text me the details and I'll see you shortly."

"You got it."

She hangs up and pulls the plug in the tub.

Back to work.

She has always lived in Los Angeles. She has always hated it but never found the will to leave it. There's something unique about this place, even though it's overflowing with both trash and trashy people.

Despite the late hour, Lilith sips a black coffee as she steps out of her car. It's an old Toyota Corolla, the green paint painfully in need of a touch up. She just doesn't care to do it. Lilith has never had much desire for material things.

She finds Chloe examining the shooter of a pop star, who is dead in the backseat of a car that crashed into a bus after said shooting.

Lilith stares at the dead body in the car, not feeling much of anything at the sight. Without averting her gaze, she asks, "What do you think?"

Chloe sighs. "Well, Dan thinks that it's drug related. Me, I'm not so sure. There was one witness if you wanna question him."
