"Sans didn't always have one HP...but lately, he's been losing hope"
----------------------------He tries to enjoy himself, he tries to create new memories knowing the past ones have never existed to the ones around him, but it feels impossible. This world had a code, sure he could do something new, but everyone else would keep on rolling in the same pattern as before.
It was heartbreaking for sans, he just wanted to get out. His code didn't belong here, it didn't belong anywhere. The more he thinks about what he was supposed to be like, the more he wants to break free. He should consider himself lucky for being aware, he should be grateful to understand everything going on, but oh how he wishes he was a normal monster like everyone else- why why why why why why why why why why-.
Every emotion overwhelms him, every aching feeling shooting through his bone makes him want to rip his soul out, every bubble that gets stuck at his throat makes him panic, he just can't handle it at this point. His eyes wander to the window, and the all the rage inside of him threatens to come out. He seemed to gain a hate for windows, they make him feel trapped.
The kid had finally made it into town, and it looks like they chose pacifist route again. It's bizarre, why would the human reset only to chose the same path as last time? Maybe they liked knowing they had control....or maybe they didn't care at all. He can't decide which option is worse. After staring at the window for a while, sans gets up and decides to take a nice long walk through waterfall.
Thoughts rush through his mind but he can't fully process them, he just tries to focus on the sounds of the snow and the humming from the waterfalls. The sounds make him feel a bit calmer, especially the water. He wants to visit the echo flower patch, see if anyone has anything new to say...he doesn't visit them very often, because he's afraid they know what he's thinking.
He sits down in the middle of the patch, closing his eyes and letting the sound overwhelm him. The echo flowers don't seem to have anything knew to say, the usual "Undyne is the best!" "I wonder how much longer we have to wait.." "I can't wait to get out of here!" and the occasional small pieces of rants from sad monsters. Sans takes a deep breath, letting out a long sigh of defeat. Maybe he should go talk to grillby? It had been a while...and some company sounds nice.
A few minutes later he finds himself sitting in grillby's, watching the monster serve his other costumers. He's seen this scene a million times, reset or not, Grillbys seems to move in an endless loop on its own. Nearly everyday the monsters repeat themselves, desperate for someone to listen to them. It was sad...and sans couldn't help but laugh at them. Not publicly of course, he's not an asshole, he just finds it funny that this is how it'll be forever.
He sighs and drinks some of his ketchup, trying to force himself away from reality. The noise is rather overwhelming, and it'll be a little while until he's able to talk to Grillby. As he feels himself drifting away from the moment, he starts to hear a faint voice. Like...a distant memory? Or something along the lines of that.
"F-fuCkk-k-k. W-WroNg-G A-a-aU agAin?" He couldn't make the figure out...what was he talking about? An au? As in- alternative universe- wait- again?? Sans snaps back to reality at grillby's soft voice. His mind doesn't drop the voice, and he finds himself unable to listen to grillby..he'll have to wrap this conversation up quickly.
"Hey grilbs, I hate to be so sudden but I should get going...me and paps are having a movie night." He says, looking at grillby with a lazy smile.
"hmm...alright, well, don't let me hold you. I'll see you tomorrow?"
"You betcha! Thanks for the ketchup" He closes his eyes a bit, then walks out the door. He was fairly certain papyrus was actually at Undyne's for the night- which relieved him. He got the house all to himself tonight! Plenty of time to think...perhaps he could try and pull up that memory again.
His memory between resets wasn't perfect, In fact, in the beginning he used to only be aware they existed. He couldn't remember them until much later, actually....to be honest, he was a bit bummed he started to remember. It made him hopeless, he was unable to find any of the good, he was unable to think about true freedom...
His constant state of mind led him to have low HP. Of course, it started going down before he had even met the kid, and he wasn't sure why. He didn't really want to get out anymore, so why had he been so heavily affected?
--flashback--
"Why does sans only have one HP?" The kid had asked, and sans tensed, deciding to walk away. Perhaps they'd drop it if he wasn't there.
"WELL....SANS DIDN'T ALWAYS HAVE ONE HP...but lately he's been losing hope." The sadness in Papyrus' tone made his chest ache. He hated it when Papyrus worried.
--End--A pained look strikes his face. He couldn't stand seeing Papyrus worried or sad, It broke him inside. Papyrus' death never hurt any less, in fact, it only hurt more knowing the timeline would be forever stuck like this. Man, to think that their entire fate lied in the hands of that kid was both terrifying and....weird. A child was able to decide if they wanted to kill them or not- god, this is another level of serial killers...
A long breath escapes his nose, walking into his room and collapsing back on the bed. Was there any chance of getting out? Was there a point of getting his hopes up over something that may have just been some sort of dream memory? Despair filled his bones, what if he was trapped here forever...?
He wishes oh so badly that he could cut himself out of the picture permanently. In fact, he probably could for this reset until the kid notices. But, well, what good is a story if the main character is dead? Actually, how would this fic play without him?...what a curious question, but his hopes are quickly demolished. That only means he'll be trapped here, for others to enjoy his suffering...
