It was meant to be a nice month of spring, with great weather and all. But for some reason; a reason the protagonist of this story, that I have deemed to be called Kevin for no particular reason whatsoever, couldn't quite put his finger on, this particular week felt off.

It all started when Kevin went to his local grocery store that Monday, except it was closed

"Huh. That's weird- they're
usually open today."

He shrugged it off as if it was nothing.

"Maybe it's a public holiday... but everything else is open?..."

Despite this slight inconvenience, he decided to travel back home. As he got in his car, he realised it had ran out of petrol.

"Damn it, I'll have to call the car towing company down the road."

He called the company, but they were closed on Mondays. Kevin decided to walk home by foot.
As he walked to the front door, he usually would be greeted by an Australian Shepherd named Freya enthusiastically wagging her tail and trying to climb him like a tree.
Except he wasn't.
He looked around his house, and his search ended where it should have started: Freya's dog bed.
Sure enough, there she was.
Although she was physically there, she wasn't moving. Kevin grew worried. He checked for a pulse, and cried right then and there, for he found none. He sorrowfully went to bed that night, dreaming about the memories made with his best friend that was no more.

If you thought the first day of the week was bad, then you may be surprised at the rest.

The following Tuesday, he received a call to notify him that he no longer would be working at his office job.

On Wednesday, he received an eviction notice and he had four weeks to find a new place.

On Thursday, he received news that his health insurance would no longer supply his needs,
seeing as he couldn't pay them.

On Friday, he received a call no one wants to receive: his mother and father had died in a car crash that evening.

Something I did not tell you at the beginning, is that back at school, our good friend Kevin bullies anyone he could. He threw homophobic, racist and sexist slurs at anyone around. He sent countless people to the hospital, but managed to talk his way out of everything.

So, in the end, the villain of this "horror story" is not the paranormal, an alien invasion or a psychopath on the loose. In this one, the villain is something that everyone has experienced before. In this one, the villain is what we know as Karma.

Karma came back to collect his debt, and collect his debt it did.
