Summer sprinted down the hall towards the lunch room, before the doors were closed. There was rule at CH that if you didn't make it to lunch by 12:05, you were not allowed inside. It was now 12:02 and Summer was still on the other end of the school, in the senior wing of the building. The lunch room was close to the freshman wing, which was clear on the other side. It would take her at least four minutes to sprint to the lunch room. She quickened her pace as the clock turned to 12:03.

She was in the sophomore area now, still a while away from her destination. People were doing the same as Summer, and running towards the freshman wing before the doors were closed. Summer finally made it to the cafeteria, with just seconds to spare.

Out of breath, and very sweaty, she grabbed a plastic tray from the counter and gathered food on it. With a salad, a chocolate milk, an apple and frozen yogurt rested on her tray, she began worrying about where she would sit. Most people in the room turned their attention to Summer, their eyes pleading for her to sit with them. Summer was quite oblivious to this and set her tray down next to the blond girl, whom she had sat next to in French. The girl lifted her gaze from her turkey sandwich and watched as Summer sat down next to her.

"Hi, I'm Summer," she said, holding her hand out for the girl to shake.

"Um.. I'm Katie," the girl said, shaking Summer's hand slowly, curious as to why this famous girl chose to sit with her, of all people.

"Nice to meet you, Katie," Summer smiled and took a bite of her salad, eyes locked on Katie, as she sat there completely dumbfounded.

"Um., may I ask you a question?" Katie leaned forward a bit.

Summer nodded, taking a swig of her milk.

"Why did you sit with me?" she asked.

"Because, you look like a nice girl. Truth be told, I'd much rather sit with a nice person than some snobby girls and their popular boyfriends," Summer chuckled a bit, and set her fork down.

Katie nodded, but didn't say anything. That is, until Kyle O'Connor pulled out the seat to her left and sat in it, clasping his hands on the table, eyes fixed on Summer.

"Hi," he smiled slightly.

Katie, jaw dropped to the floor, stared at him, although he didn't seem to notice her existence. Summer rolled her eyes slightly, not acknowledging his presence.

"Hi, Katie," Kyle smiled at her, noticing her sitting next to him, her jaw still opened wide.

"H-hi, Kyle," she said, blood rushing to her cheeks. Summer shook her head, and continued to chow down on her chicken salad.

"So, Summer, why don't you come sit with me?" he asked.

"No thanks," Summer said, her lips formed in a straight line.

"Okay, your loss," he shrugged and went to join his friends once again.

"Oh my gosh," Katie exclaimed, "Kyle O'Connor just asked you to join him at his table! He never invites people to sit with him and his friends! You are one lucky girl. Not only are you extremely famous, but you practically have every single popular boy dropping at your feet!"

Although, Summer didn't feel lucky. In fact, she wished she wasn't famous. All she wanted was a normal life, with privacy, and not having to worry about her image. She wished she could be anything but famous. But she didn't say this aloud, but instead  just smiled at Katie.

When the bell rang, signalling the end of lunch, they both gathered their things and left the cafeteria.

***********

When the final bell of the day wailed out across the school building, students gathered with their friends and left. Summer was one of the last people to leave, and when she did, there were only about three cars in the parking lot, none of which were hers. She didn't want her bodyguards to pick her up and instead begged her mom to walk home. Of course, there were a few people gathered at the end of the street, cameras in hand.

Summer tried her best to ignore them, and began her walk to her house. It was a sunny day, and was only about 70 degrees outside. She pulled her sweater over her head, revealing a white t-shirt. She stuffed the sweater into her schoolbag, and pulled out her RayBan's, putting them on.

When she reached her house, her mom's car wasn't in the driveway, which wasn't a surprise. Her mom was rarely home, and instead working with Summer's publicist and manager. It seemed to Summer that her mom enjoyed her fame more than Summer did herself.

Summer set her bag down in the foyer, and raced up the stairs to her room. Her cat set on her bed, sleeping, and Summer gathered the cat up in her arms, petting her gently. Her cat, Meredith, was striped with gray on her back and head, while her stomach and paws were solid white. Meredith purred softly, as Summer's hand stroked her soft fur.

Summer eventually set the cat on the floor, and leaped on her  bed, pulling the duvet over her and drifting into a peaceful slumber.
