"sis ima miss you so so much. every since the mom situation ive been tryna hold our family together but since you're leaving..here, i got you a present." my brother rakim says while taking a necklace out his jacket pocket.
it was a necklace with a locket that had a picture..of my mother, that died from a overdose a few years ago. she wasnt mentally stable and she had multiple brains tumors that could kill at any second. the doctors wanted to do surgery but they didnt wanna risk ending her life if something was to go wrong. my mom suffered from a lot of things really, physically mentally and emotionally. me and rakim wasnt in her custody at the time.
the police were aware of her addiction to the drugs she was taking. some of the drugs were originally to stop the pain, others was just for her entertainment.
DHR took my mother away from me and my brother back in 2010, nine years ago, i was only thirteen at the time. they took my mother to rehab but that didnt stop her.
rakim knew about my mother's situation but didnt speak much about it to me considering i was still young. he must've thought it would scare me or something, he might've thought i would had seen my mom as a crackhead. that would be the last thing i do.
new york had the worst crackheads at the time of the incident.
we were taken under our grandparents custody and on October 31, 2013 three years after her addiction started, we were laying her down to sleep.
i never cried so much in my life after that.
i was snapped out of my thoughts when rakim waved his hand in front of my face a couple of times. "sis you alright? it got you shedding tears and shit. i'll take the necklace back if you want.." he said trailing off.
"n-no its fine. it just brought back some memories i dont wanna remember. i love it, honestly." i said taking every detail of the gold piece in my hand. on the back it read "god's gift from heaven. long live you."
rakim looked at me crazy and walked away like it was nothing. because it was, nothing.
