Brendan, barely conscious, floats along the current of the ocean. All of the events of the day play through his head, and all he can feel is the rain. The rain isn't as heavy as it was at Sootopolis, but it is still raining hard. As lightning cracks across the horizon, Brendan sees the faint outline of an island. After swimming for almost an hour, sleep once again takes over.

Mossdeep City

Brendan wakes up on a small sandbar, with Milotic not too far away.

Brendan: Milotic! Are you alright?

???: Your Pokémon should be alright, but you should take it to a Pokémon Center soon.

Brendan: Who are you?

Cozmo: Don't you recognize me? That stings, Brendan. It's me, Professor Cozmo!

Brendan: Cozmo, is it really you?! I haven't seen you in years! *coughing*

Cozmo: Woah, slow down! You're still injured. You're lucky I saw you out there, otherwise you would have been swept out into the InterRegional Ocean!

Brendan: Thanks for helping me out. What are you doing out here, anyways?

Cozmo: I just got transferred to a new lab here in Mossdeep! They converted the old Space Center into a research facility specializing in new Pokéball technology. Pretty cool, huh?

Brendan: Yeah, sounds pretty sweet. Agh, I gotta get Milotic healed up so we can get to Pacifidlog Town.

Cozmo: Pacifidlog Town? That could be a problem.

Brendan: What do you mean?

Cozmo: The earthquake a few hours ago caused a massive tidal wave, which ran right through the area. The currents are too strong to reach it, and the lightning is preventing people from flying there. We've lost all contact with the Town.

Brendan: Oh, shit. I lost all of my Pokémon when Sootopolis was destroyed, too.

Cozmo: What about Rayquaza? If Groudon and Kyogre are at it again, then he's our only hope.

Brendan: Rayquaza is probably still at Sky Pillar. I never officially caught him, because there aren't any Pokéballs capable of holding Legendary Pokémon. Rayquaza just seems to have taken a liking to me.

Cozmo: Hmm... About that Pokéball issue... Come with me. There's something I want to show you.

Brendan: I'm not sure I like where this is going...

Cozmo: Relax! This will revolutionize the way we bond with our Pokémon!

Brendan: Oh, boy... we're all doomed.

Pokétech Institute (PKTi)

Cozmo: This building is the PKTi. This is where I have been conducting research on a better method of bonding with Pokémon! We are currently in the Alpha Testing phase of a major experiment, but I can't tell you about that just yet. However, there IS one thing I'd like you to see.

Brendan: Alright, let's see what you've got.

Cozmo: This is a prototype Pokéball. This goes hand in hand with the system we're developing, but the rest of the system isn't ready yet.

Brendan: Looks cool. What does it do?

Cozmo: This Pokéball is designed to convert the captured pokemon into data, which is then processed through a server, and eventually into the PC. It then allows the Pokémon to be sent out without the use of a physical Pokéball, essentialy removing the limit on the number of Pokémon you can carry at a time.

Brendan: Are you serious? That's incredible!

Cozmo: That's not all! Among other things, this particular prototype is modified to be able to catch any Pokémon, including legendary Pokémon.

Brendan: Wow. How long did it take to develop that?

Cozmo: A group of my best scientists started researching the subject 5 years ago, and I stepped in to lead the operation last year.

Brendan: That's crazy... To be able to catch any Pokémon, and have it with you at all times... That would completely reinvent the way people and pokemon interact!

Cozmo: Exactly! Tests are still underway, but we believe that this prototype could be the one that works.

Brendan: Alright, I'm off to heal Milotic. I'll be back to talk soon!

Pokémon Center

Nurse: Hello, welcome to the Pokémon Center! would you like me to restore your Pokémon to full health?

Brendan: Yeah, thanks!

Nurse: Here you are, all healed up! We hope to see you again!

Brendan: Wait... you WANT my Pokémon to get hurt?

Nurse: You've been on the internet again, haven't you?

Brendan: Yeah...

Nurse: It's a common misconception. If Pokémon aren't brought to the Pokémon Centers, they would retain any injuries for life. This is considered Pokémon abuse, and one of our goals is to prevent it. Also, we need to pay for our food SOMEHOW. The branch manager provides food and shelter for us so long as we take care of injured Pokémon.

Brendan: You've been wanting to say that for a while now, haven't you?

Nurse: Yeah, hahah...

Brendan: Well, I'm off to go... uhh... somewhere other than here. Bye!

Meanwhile, at PKTi

???: Skarmory, use fly!

Cozmo: WAIT!!! Get back here with that!

???: Thank you for your cooperation, but I will be taking my leave now! I've got places to be.

Cozmo: You can't take that! It's still a prototy-

???: So long, Professor!

Cozmo: Oh, this is bad... This is very bad...
