I'll come back. That's what was promised to Dwight. Dwight shifted uncomfortably, the campfire had gone out hours ago. So had the rest of them, they all left. Mixed emotions filled his head. He was happy they all got out but what about him. He always felt left behind. Dwight had to remind himself that there was nothing they could've done, they will be back though. It was a promise, even Jake promised it. Jake never breaks his promises.
A rumbling noise from the sky distracted Dwight. He looked up right as is began to rain.
"Thanks Entity." The now shivering man thought to himself. He was sure the other worldly being was angry with him. Because of him the entity food was gone all twenty of them.
Dwight tugged at the jacket on his shoulders, bringing it closer. He felt tears fill his eyes.
I'll come back
I'll come back
I'll come back
Dwight kept reminding himself of this. Jake will come back. He knew he would. I hoped he would.
Another noise distracted him. This time it was a branch snap. Someone was watching him. Dwight rose to his feet getting ready to run, he knew a sprint would exhaust him right now but he didn't care because all he wanted was to get as far away as possible. A white rabbit mask came into view but she wasn't humming her usual lullaby. In fact she was completely silent. Something felt very wrong.
The Huntress raised her hatchet, it glistened in the rain soaked night. She let it go flying straight for Dwight's head. He ducked, then took off running just as Meg had taught him. He dashed for the woods maybe she would lose him there, he knew he wouldn't be able to out run her for long and this was nothing like the trials he was by the campfire this was a safe space how could she be here.
Dwight reached the woods. He had made distance between him and the huntress. He had a chance now. He slowed his pace into a speed-walk, the huntress grew nearer her footsteps growing louder. Quietly he crouched down behind a tree, Dwight reached behind him and grabbed a small rock. He threw it as far as he could to the right. Distracted by the sound the huntress turned towards it. She ran off in the direction of the pebble, thinking that she had finally caught her pray.
With quick steps Dwight made his way to a small shelter in the woods. It has rickety wood walls and a tarp as a roof, Jake had built it back when he was around, there were times where Jake needed to be alone so he came here. It wasn't much but it was shelter. Dwight made his way inside and took a seat in the corner. Pushing himself up against the wall in hopes of gaining warmth from being inside and the green jacket. Not much was gained and the rain wasn't helping. Dwight sighed to himself the fear of the chase from just mere minutes ago was drifting away. He had done well, lost the killer almost as soon as the chase began.
Claudette would be proud of him and Nea would probably say something like "I've seen better." He smiled to himself, the small amounts of joy quickly turned into sorrow. He missed them, he missed all of them. No matter how much they angered each other or got each other killed they were all in it together. They were like family. And now only Dwight had remained.
"No." Dwight thought to himself. "They were all still out there. They'll come back. It's just my job to survive until they do. Then the entity will starve and it won't harm anyone else."
The rain seemed to pour harder, the cold rain began to seep through the tarp. Dwight groaned then quickly covered his mouth. He had forgotten about the hunter that was currently searching for him.
"Stupid stupid stupid." Dwight thought to himself as he sat there as silent as possible. He felt eyes on him, a voice inside of him yelling at him to move. She couldn't be here already he would've heard her footsteps. The voice continued, move he was being watched its unsafe move. A shuffle noise was made above him. Dwight looked up and saw finally what been looking at him. A white masked figure chuckled as he stared back. He stood there on the roof staring through a hole in the tarp. Stalking him. Ghostface.
Dwight gasped in terror. Two!? He tried sitting up as fast as possible. The cloaked killer jumped down. Ghostface waved his hands around mocking the terror filled man.
"That was really easy." A voice came from behind the mask, it sounded like it masked with radio static as if he was talking through a voice changer. The killers had never talked to him before. Ghostface gripped his knife and took a stab, Dwight couldn't move in time and up on the floor again. His side bleeding heavily. His breath grew hasty and pained. Ghostface took aim again only to be interrupted by a hatchet that stuck in the wood behind Dwight. Ghostface sighed a gripped the back of Dwight's collar and dragged him out of the shelter and onto the muddy forest floor.
"We were told to keep the small one alive." A thick Russian accent came from the dark as the huntress emerged. Ghostface let Dwight go his face colliding with the mud and his glasses falling off.
"I wasn't going to kill him. Since when has two stabs killed them before. Besides can't the entity just bring him back. It does it all the time." Ghostface said amusement in his voice.
"Times have changed." The Huntress growled, obviously annoyed by her fellow killers sarcasm."The entity said it wanted this one alive, we keep it alive or we're all going to suffer." Ghostface crossed his arms and looked away from the much taller masked woman.
"Fine, at least let me knock him out. It'll make the walk back much easier. We don't need him wiggling around, right?" Ghostface said, if he wasn't wearing a mask Dwight imagined him shifting his brows.
The huntress nodded. Dwight sighed readying himself for a hit to the back of them head. Instead he was met with a back end of a knife to the back of his head that just left him in pain. He groaned in protest. The Huntress growled. She stepped forward and brought the staff of her axe down on Dwights head knocking him out.
"There."
