Chapter Two : The Strange Girl

I got to class a tad late. It was no fault of mine..I got lost twice and had to pay ten times the normal price for a shuttle, all because I was a "bloody fresher". It was a great day,the sun was perfectly hidden beyond a gigantic cloud,and a gentle breeze caressed the environment. The trees swayed gently,to the soothing rhythm of the breeze. Above me,just a little bit higher than I could reach,two turtle doves cooed to each other,probably promising everlasting and undying love to each other. I shook my head and walked on. The whole environment was perfect,the only aberration in it was me.
Dressed in a hand me down,I felt strange and out of place. My short sleeves were a gift from my dad,three packet shirts. One was brown,another bluish grey and the last one,which,unfortunately, I was on,was milk,striped with vertical running gold flecks that shone in the sun. My trousers were a classic! If not for the blessed hand of my very good friend,Overcomer,who was a fashion designer,I'd have had no trousers. He adjusted every single one without charging me for it nor complaining. My brown shoes,made of Italian leather,were about the only part of my outfit supposed to give me joy but they too,were passed down from my father to my brother,and now,it was my turn to wear the patriarchal  shoe. I wobbled,losing my balance in the oversized shoe for the fifth time in one day.
As I approached my class,I saw  students,some of whom I'd seen during our physical clearance,gathered outside,in different bands,some whispering furiously.
They appeared all well dressed and in my head,I was suddenly a pauper,with all of them knowing how badly my dress fit and how I had to walk in a strange gait as my shoes threatened to pull of dare I walk normal.
I attempted one step,two steps and then I wobbled, gaining a few glances my way. Some of these glancers turned back to their discussion while a few more looked at me,the expression on their face somewhat like disdain. I checked my watch,the only thing I was proud of in my dressing. It was a Timex  original gold classic watch, worth close to a hundred US dollars... And I was thank full for it. The clock read the time as 9:15 am.
