CHAPTER THREE |
the rooftop.

———

A few days after Yoongi's surgery went by. Everything went well and his wound healed good so he was finally allowed to leave his bed. Andrew got him a wheelchair which he could sit in and roll around the hospital with.

Jimin had been feeling a little better as well. He wasn't throwing up that much anymore and he was actually able to stand up and walk around for a bit.

So one day Jimin decided to sit up in his bed and look over to his roommate. "Hey, do you want me to show you around a little bit? I figured that you never really got a hospital tour. I can show you where I like to hang out when I'm not feeling too bad."

Yoongi was quite surprised to hear the invitation because the two boys hadn't really talked that much so far but he agreed and sat up on his bed, pulling the wheelchair close enough so he can heave himself into it. He still had some complications with it but he was slowly getting the hang of it.

Jimin got up as well and grabbed a thick winter coat that he put on, not wanting to freeze all the time. He slipped into some shoes and then grabbed the handles of Yoongi's wheelchair.

"I'll push you." He smiled and pushed the other through the door and into the hospital hall.

They quietly walked around for a bit until they reached a room that was quite colorful decorated. Jimin pushed Yoongi inside and stopped in the middle of the room, resting himself on Yoongi's wheelchair as well.

"This is our community room. Because we're on a floor with mostly teenagers you'll probably only find them here. You can read some books or play board games with other people. We also have a piano but not many people play on it." Jimin explained, pointing towards the small black piano on the right side of the room.

Yoongi nodded and stared at the piano, excited that he could still continue playing even though he was stuck in the hospital. "Can I?" He asked the boy and pointed at the instrument.

"Sure! You play?" Jimin asked, pushing Yoongi in front of the piano and sat down on a chair next to him.

"Yeah, since I was a little kid." He smiled and placed his hands on the keys before trying out some melodies.

Yoongi quickly got lost in the sound of the music and so did Jimin. Both of the boys just sat there for some time without saying a word, just enjoying the music that filled the room.

Yoongi looked up when he finished the melody and smiled a little before he heard Jimin clap.

"That was beautiful! I hope you'll play more often." The other boy smiled and got up. "Come on, let me show you the rest." He grabbed the handles of the wheelchair again and pushed Yoongi out of the room.

They walked down the hall a little bit until they reached a room completely out of glass windows. "This is the Cafeteria. I don't usually eat here but you can if you're feeling up to it or you can just come here if you want to get some snacks." Jimin said and walked along the glass windows with Yoongi, looking inside before they reached the elevators.

"Now let me show you where I like to hang out." Jimin pressed the up button of the elevator and waited for it to appear.

A few people left the elevator When the doors opened, along with Andrew who gave the two boys a surprised look. "What are you two doing here?"

"I was just about to show Yoongi the place where I like to hang out." Jimin mumbled and picked at the end of his coat.

"Jimin, you know you have to tell one of the nurses before you leave the floor. I really don't know if you're up to this kind of adventure yet. Remember how you felt just a few days ago?"

"But I'm feeling a lot better! And we'll come down as soon as I'm getting tired, I promise. I just really want to show Yoongi the place, pretty please?" Jimin pouted and stared at the nurse with his puppy eye look.

Andrew sighed but couldn't resist Jimin's pout. "Alright, but just this once. And be sure that you guys come immediately down if one of you gets cold or tired."

"We will!" Jimin grinned and stepped into the elevator with Yoongi. He pressed the highest number and the doors began to close.

"Andrew is nice." Yoongi said while staring at the red numbers of the elevator go higher and higher.

"Yeah, he's my favorite nurse. He's been with me since the beginning and I think we became really close friends." Jimin smiled and walked out of the elevator when the doors opened.

He pushed Yoongi down the hall and stopped at a glass door before he opened it and pushed the wheelchair onto a roof terrace. It wasn't too cold today so Jimin moved Yoongi next to a bench on which the bald boy sat down. From this place the two had a perfect view over the city.

"I love coming out here. It makes me feel like I can forget the cancer and the hospital for some time and just enjoy the fresh air." Jimin hummed.

Yoongi quietly stared at the city for some time before he looked at the boy next to him. "For how long have you been here?"

"I got diagnosed with cancer almost a year ago. I was sixteen at that time, I actually just turned seventeen a few months ago."

"A whole year? Shouldn't you be better by now?" The older asked, shocked by how long the boy already had been here.

Jimin let out a small frustrated laugh. "Yeah, I probably should. But that's not how cancer works. Right now I'm just happy to still be alive. I mean the tumor hasn't grown or spread or anything, it just- it didn't get smaller either."

Yoongi slowly nodded. "It's in your stomach, right? Are you even able to eat?"

"Not really. When I try to eat something I most likely throw it up again. I got a feeding tube a few months after I got here." Jimin explained and opened his jacket a little. He pulled his sweatshirt up and revealed a tube that went through his skin and into his stomach.

Yoongi stared at the tube and couldn't help but notice how skinny the boy next to him really was. He only looked away when Jimin pulled his shirt down again and closed his jacket.

Yoongi didn't know what to say. He never really thought about what would happen if he didn't get healthy again. When he came here he was convinced that he'll get some treatment and then be out of here in no time but Jimin was the living proof that chemotherapy didn't always help like it was supposed to.

After they sat on the roof in silence Jimin decided to speak up. "What's it like living with just one leg?"

Yoongi looked down at his left upper leg and then at Jimin. "It's weird. It's really hard to balance, not just because it's hard to stand on one foot but also because something is just missing. I don't know, it's hard to explain." He smiled awkwardly and ran his hand trough his hair.

"No, I think I get it. Your body is used to being somewhat symmetric, right? And now that your leg is missing it doesn't really find a balance."

'Yeah, that's exactly what I meant.' Yoongi thought and smiled at the younger boy. They both went quiet again and stared down at the city until Yoongi realized that Jimin was shivering.

"We should probably head inside again, it's getting pretty cold." Yoongi suggested and Jimin nodded before he stood up and pushed the other boy back inside.

They reached their room quietly and the moment Jimin's head reached his pillow he fell asleep immediately.

I hope this chapter was okay. It didn't happen that much but Yoongi learned a bit about Jimin's time in the hospital.

I also changed the name of the story because I think it fits better than tightrope idk and I also made a new cover !
