As the early rays of sunlight streamed through your blinds, you blinked yourself awake and yawned loudly.
"Good morning, (Y/n)!"
You jumped at Chucky's voice, momentarily forgetting he was there. You smiled down at him from where he was still snuggled up to your chest and nuzzled your face against his affectionately.
"Good morning, Chucky," you replied.
As you brushed the traces of bed head from your hair, Chucky watched you from where he was seated on your towel rack. He began to imitate you by moving his hand up and down over his own hair, clutching an invisible comb. This made you burst out laughing at his antics, scooping him into your arms and gushing about how cute he was. He giggled and held onto you tightly, happy that he could make you smile.
Chucky continued to follow you around the house and offer to help with your morning activities. He helped you make your cereal by holding the bowl for you, and offered to sit on the counter and sing to you as you washed the dishes.
After you had gotten dressed, you gathered your things and put on your shoes, ready to go. As you expected, Chucky followed you to the door.
"Alright, I'll see you after work, okay?" you knelt down and gently ruffled his hair.
Chucky blinked. "M-my best buddy's going away?" he murmured.
You felt the familiar pang of sadness in your chest upon seeing his unhappiness.
"It's okay, I'm only gonna be gone for a few hours. You're gonna be oka-," you began.
"Please don't leave me!" he cried, suddenly leaping forward and into your arms, clinging to you tightly.
You felt yourself deflate at his desperation. "Oh, honey, it's okay," you soothed, smoothing your fingers through his hair. "Please don't be sad. I promise, I'll get back as soon as I can, and then we can be together and do whatever you want, okay, sweetheart?"
You pulled back and cradled his face in your hands.
"Okay," he whimpered.
"You gotta be brave for me, okay? I know you're scared to be alone, but I know you can do it. You're my brave little guy," you told him, taking his hands in yours.
He hesitantly cracked a grin for you.
"Just think about all the fun we're gonna have when I come home. I'll be back before you even know it."
You pulled back, preparing to stand up. "I love you, buddy."
The android's eyes widened in shock. "You... love me?" his murmur was hardly a whisper.
You leaned close again. Has no one ever told him they love him?
"Of course I love you. You're my best buddy, remember?"
He blinked, a hesitant smile beginning to form.
You chuckled. "Oh, my precious baby," you cooed, gathering him to your chest. "I love you with all of my heart. Don't ever forget that, okay?"
He nodded blissfully.
Giving him a final kiss on the forehead, you set him down again and went to the door, waving farewell before closing it behind you.
Throughout the day as you worked, your mind was focused entirely on Chucky, wishing with all your heart that you could've stayed home or brought him to work with you. The poor thing obviously hated to be alone, and you once again thought back to his incident with Andy, concluding that it must be the cause. Fighting the urge to bolt from the building and speed home, you reminded yourself that you would be home soon, and that you could smother the little doll with love all night long as soon as you returned.
Meanwhile, Chucky was nothing short of miserable. He longed to be held in your warm and loving arms, or even just to see your face or hear your voice. Although he had only just met you, he already had such a hard time being separated from someone who loved him just as much as he loved them. He was grateful for his new home, but it felt so empty without you in it. But nonetheless, he stayed rooted to the spot you had left him, patiently awaiting his best friend's return.
