CHAPTER TWENTY ONE
My eyes fluttered open as beams of light coming in the window punctured my eyelids. I wasn't alone either. My head was against someone's chest, our naked bodies intertwined and his heavy arm wrapping around my waist. Butterflies danced in my stomach as I studied him. Vines were tattooed along this abs, thorns edging up his chest. Messy dyed blonde hair laid against his forehead, almost covering his closed eyes.
"Morning beautiful," he rasped, moaning slightly as he awoke. His piercing blue eyes flickered open, peering down at me. "That time already?"
I nodded before rolling over and reaching for his shirt, pulling it over my head. "Gav, you know you have to go before my dad wakes up."
He pouted, pulling me back down to meet his lips. "Live on the wild side, Sammy. Just five more minutes?"
I shook my head, he could be so cute sometimes. It made me wish he wanted to be more than just friends with benefits. My smile faded into a frown.
"What just happened?" he asked, noticing the change in my demeanor. I quickly covered up the emotional debate that was happening in my mind and straddled him.
"Fine, five more minutes, but then you have to sneak out the window." I laid back down and rolled onto my side. He snaked his hand around my waist and held me.
"What's wrong?" He pressed his lips against the nape of my neck, leaving me swooning.
"It's nothing," I turned in his grasp and pressed my forehead against his chest. His words echoed in my ears, I don't think I can do commitment and I don't want to pretend to be someone that I'm not. Most of all I don't want to hurt you, Sammy so this is just the way it has to be. If you can handle that, fine. If you can't then that's fine too. I guess I just thought after a year something would have changed, I would have won him over by now.
Gavin sighed and kissed my forehead. "If you say so. Guess I should get going then."
"Yeah, guess so, just let me check if the coast is clear." I crawled over him and hopped out of the bed. He wasn't far behind.
"I thought I was using the window." He smirked, showing me his teeth. He always knew how to make me forget about my doubts, maybe that was why I let it go on for so long.
I laughed. "If you want to end up in the middle of a thorn bush then be my guest."
He peered out the window and winced. "Better not. Wouldn't want to damage all of this." He gestured to his body. I admit, I didn't want that either but I wasn't about to tell him that.
I rolled my eyes. "Or your ego."
"That too."
"I'll be right back." I tiptoed into the hallway, only to notice Cameron standing in the kitchen. He was leaning over the counter, swiping on his phone with his usual scowl on his face. "What are you doing up?"
