*A/N: Ok so I'm actually really happy that you all have read this so far like 205 reads, what?! Didn't think anyone would really read this. Anyway, I want to let you guys know that the first chapter was kinda just a little teaser that I meant to continue but Wattpad locked me out so I can't. I guess it's cuz I haven't finished? Idk. Tell me in comments.*
Amber's POV:
I walked down the street to the closest gas station for another pack of cigarettes and gum. The crummy run-down houses around me consisted of chipped paint and broken pieces of glass and furniture around the lawn. As I walked past one house in particular I heard the tell-tale sounds of shouting and banging. Right on time I saw the door slam shut behind a fairly attractive teenage boy, stomping across the lawn towards me. His dark hair was a bit long and was in need of a cut as it flew around his face from both the gentle wind and his pace. I didn't slow down as I walked, merely watching him. That boy was unpredictable. His smooth toned skin wasn't its usual color as his anger stained it red. The 6'1" boy walked over and his face noticeable calmed as he saw me. Finally arriving two feet away he showed his usual smirk.
"Well if it isn't the beautiful and innocent Amber."
I rolled my eyes at him and returned his smirk with one of my own before replying, "Jake you and I both know there's nothing innocent about me. So what'd Lara get pissed off about this time?"
He rolled his eyes, obviously not liking the new topic of conversation. "Honestly, it was one of the stupidest things she's yelled at me for. She saw my pack of cigs and said I was gonna die and ruin my life. What's even crazier is that she smokes more than me!"I raised my eyebrows, more amused than anything else as I looked at Jake, pissed off at my reaction. Then I laughed, it was too much. The look on his face was just so funny. He shot me a glare before we resumed the walk to the gas station.
"Is that all that happened?" I asked, finally sobering up. He scowled and then muttered, "Then she smacked me upside the head and broke all my cigs."
I laughed again, completely unable to help myself. No wonder he joined me on this walk! That must have been his last pack!
Finally I stopped laughing and Jake took that as his cue to say, "So I'm guessing you're off to get some cigarettes as well?" I nodded and looked away from him quickly. That wasn't the only reason I wanted to leave the foster home.
Jake took notice and stopped walking, trying to see in my face what I was hiding. "Amber," he began, "What's happened?" I ignored him and kept walking. He grabbed my arm and pulled me back to him, holding me so I couldn't turn away or leave.
I looked into his eyes and saw concern but looked away quickly and taking a direct interest in my shoes before muttering, "Nothing Jake, don't worry about it." I tried to walk away again but his grip on me was strong. Finally I looked up at him with tears in my eyes and the look on my face said it all. I could tell he understood what had happened because he suddenly became pale and shaken. Realization dawned on his face. He began shaking his head and quietly said, "No..."
I nodded and said what we both already knew. It was the one thing that could tear me and Jake apart, the one thing we thought would never happen this far in, "Jake, I'm getting adopted..."
