Sometimes the Akiran Acadamy lets students skip the whole day, and travel to Downtown Jaiku, the city where I live.

It's an award, for doing something acceptional in school. I had helped Mrs. Dunkin, a librarian from America, put the whole entire fourth library together. The Acadamy was so big, we had more then one of everything. There were other libraries set up around the whole school, but Mrs. Dunkin's library was brand new, and all of the janitors where cleaning the garden that day.

Since it was a "good deed" or something, as soon as the headmaster found out that I had helped, he scheduled for me to have a day off.

I thought about my best friend, Hibiki Kai, and frowned. I checked my watch, and sure enough, it was 10:25. The time that geometry began. He would have to endure that long, achingly boring class alone.

I sighed, but then sniffed. A sweet, sweet aroma filled the air. A cake! I looked around the corner excitedly, because cake was my favorite food, and I would be so lucky to get my hands on a fresh one from one of the famous Jaiku Bakeries.

I walked in a rushed fashion, trying to avoid bumping into anyone to get around the corner, but when the street came into view, there was not a single store. Only homes of citizens.

I paused, confused. The fresh cake smell had also disappeared. "Wha..?" I began to ask, but then I spotted him.

A small boy, probably not any older then six years, was crying in the middle of the street, all alone, and none of the people even gave him a second glance.

He was wearing a oversized white T-shirt and cute white shorts that had little cartoon frogs all over them.

I hurried to the boy, and dropped to my knees. "Hey, little boy?" I said gently, so as not to startle him. He looked up, and I gasped. His eyes were like diamonds, shining, brighter then the blue sky, and large. But yet, they were full of tears.

"What's wrong?" I asked, softly touching his shoulder.

"I- I lost my mummy." He wailed, and I frowned.

"Oh, you poor thing. Do you remember what she was wearing today?"

"Y-yes. A pink dress and a white jacket, like the color of my shirt."

He sniffed, and pulled on his shirt to demonstrate.

"Okay, well I'll help you look for her. She's probably very worried. Do you live around here?"

"Yes, I live c-close."

At first I had thought that his stuttering came from his crying, but I realized that it just how he was. So cute!

"Is s-s-she at home?" He asked, staring at me with his beautiful eyes.

"Well I'm sure she is!" I smiled, and he smiled a brillant white smile back.

Just then, he ran. I gasped, as he began weaving through people, heading fast down the road. "W- Wait!" I yelled, as I began to run after him.

"Where are you going?" I screamed, catching hints of his white shirt as he ran. Quickly, he ducked down an ally, and I almost ran by, but I stopped myself.

I turned and tried to run quicker.

He's fast! I thought, inhaling breath rapidly.

I glanced up, and saw a large beige wall looming only a little ways ahead. "Little boy!" I screamed again. The wall was getting closer, and closer, until finally, it was right infront of me. The boy had stopped about two inches from the face of the wall, nearly smashing himself.

I gasped for breath, leaning on the wall.

"You should really start exercising more. Your stamina is so low. I'm surprised you could keep up, but I'm happy you did." The boy said quietly, his voice becoming dark, and low.

"Wh- What?!" I managed to breathe out before sucking in another breath.

"Well, I'm hungry." The boy muttered. I looked up, and saw that he had his head lowered, so that his blonde hair fell hid his small face.

I suddenly got chills, and I shivered. The boy made me feel uneasy now, and the mood seemed to be evil, somehow.

"I could have taken you somewhere to eat, you didnt have to run off like that." I said slowly, suddenly unsure.

I had this ridiculously strong urge to take off running...was it fear? My heart began to pound.

Keeping my eyes on the boy, I began to walk out of the ally.

"Where are you going, Mizuki?"

His voice sounded like a hundred dead souls. It was icy, cold, and dark. I glanced at his face. One eye was completely different, red, and dead, like a stone. It had no feeling, no life.

The other eye began to droop, and then it was sliding down his face, and what was left was a mouth. Or,  at least, that's what I thought it was. It was a tall oval, and had sharp black triangles positioned all around it.

I let a scream escape my lips as his body deformed and the blond hair floated piece, by piece on to the ground.

I turned to run, wanting to unsee the boy, that sweet looking boy, turn into that... that thing!

Something touched my back, and I looked down. I was not moving. It was like I was running on a treadmill.

The air around me began to turn black. I started to scream, but my scream never came. I threw my hands to my face, and fell to the ground.

I tried and tried for what seemed like hours to scream, but everything was silent. This was so horrible.. I wanted to die.

"You will die.. I promise you." Growled the hundreds of voices from somewhere in the dark.

Tears began to fall down my cheeks, and I just screamed again. Something rope-like that even darker than the blackness that surrounded me twirled and danced. After a while, they all snapped, and wrapped around me. They were around my arms, legs, torso, throat...I couldn't move.

And they started to tighten. I coughed, and wheezed for breath, but I was starting to fall unconscious.

I felt myself moving and when I opened my eyes, the monster was infront of me. Blood was pouring out of his mouth like drool and everything became fuzzy.

"I'm going to die here...and all I wanted to do was help that little boy..."

Then, all I could see was light. The light turned into colors, the colors, fuzzy blobs, the fuzzy blobs, shapes, until finally, I was blinking and sitting up off of the hard dirt ground.

The beige wall was looming over me again, and the darkness was gone. There was a man standing over me, and a large black lump of something behind him. Red ooze puddled around the black dead lump.

"Hey! Are you there?"

I realized the guy was yelling, and waving a hand in my face.

"Uh..."
