I had only a day to say goodbye to everyone for murdering Jack Vantrar. One day. 24 Hours. The only person I wanted to be with in the world right now was my pregnant girlfriend Mariah. The girl who was torn up on losing me.
But I did not regret shooting that man between his eyes nor would I ever regret it and I felt I needed no mercy or forgiveness. I did what was right. That man was a monster who was planning to drop a bomb on many innocent people.
I ruined my whole future, my time in the military, I gave up my future wife and child to save hundreds of thousands of people and I did not care one bit.
I held Mariah in my arms as she cried, arguing with me, questioning why I did what I had done and I was so cruel for leaving her alone raising our child. My sentence wasn't even normal. Every part of me wanted to go into the other room and put a gun to my head and pull the trigger. I did not want to be asleep for an eternity stuck inside a breatheable coffin thinking over things I should of, could of, would of, for 20 years.
I closed my eyes and tried not to cry. I just had to endure my sentence. Only twenty years.
The day passed quicker than I wanted it to but I waited for the serum to kick in. Any minute now I would fall over and pass out for 20 years. They had injected me before letting me leave jail so that way there was no way I could escape after saying goodbye to everyone.
I stared to feel drowsy, the room was spinning and my muscles started to feel weak. I had maybe twenty more minutes left. Mariah kissed me and held me now while I slowly started to fade on the bed. A loud banging made me stir. It must have been the police to come get my body and put me in that damn tube that would keep me alive while I was asleep.
Mariah got up and went to the door. A few moments later I heard her screaming and multiple gunshots. My heart started racing and I tried to quickly jump up, but that wasn't happening. My movements were sluggish. I got up and slowly made my way to the living room almost falling over and grabbing the back of the couch for support. I screamed in emotional agony.
There on the floor shot and bleeding to death was Mariah. She was shot multiple times in the stomach. I knew for sure she and our baby were gone. The cops weren't here it was Jack's father and older brother.
"Slide, you are definitely going to be a an example to the world to not ever mess with the Vantrar family."
All I could see was red. This was the price I had to pay for saving millions?
"I have 20 years. Then I am going to kill you both," I wanted to scream but it onlycame out in a whisper. Jack's father quickly rushed around and grabbed me by the neck and jammed something up through my ribcage and into my heart. I gasped as my veins felt like they were turning into ice.
"Actually kid, there's this new technology that can literally make someone immortal, they call it the super soldier drug. It enhances strength, agility, and intelligence, but with that sleep serum running through your body, when the two collide together in your body it will feel like your heart's going to explode and you will neer wake up again."
He was right it felt like I was having a heart attack. This couldn't be happening to me. I would sleep forever? I felt my heart burst and I screamed. I was dying in his arms it felt like. But this is what he wanted.
No matter what. One day, just one day I would wake up and avenge Mariah and my unborn child.
With the last bit of my strength and right before I passed out I pulled myself to his ear.
"One day someone will wake me up, and when they do I am going to kill every single Vantrar out there."
