You know the tale of the monster Medusa, You know of all her evil deeds and what she does to the people that gaze upon her face, but what you do not know is the love of Medusa.
The monster had a heart and it belonged to someone, a blind woman named Viviene Pellissa and their love was a story for the ages.
It was but one afternoon Medusa was travelling through the Land of Tarth and she stumbled upon a village, when she arrived it was not just any village, it was the village of the blind, a whole group of blind people living together in peace and taking care of themselves. She could not turn anyone to stone for none of them could see her face and so she decided to stay and live among them. She covered her head of snakes with a cloth and she went to the man in charge, Oren. He was blinded as a young boy and had lost his eyes to a tragic illness, she requested to stay and it was granted. She was then assigned to go to the fourth house down the road and there she went, she heard singing of an old song, the voice was beautiful and the song grew louder as she got closer it, she saw the beautiful woman singing the song
"The age of hearts is beating to die, when love is lost then everyone cries. We are praying and hoping for the gods to decide, as we take our peace in you and in I"
and then Medusa joins in with the woman as they sang the part that went
"So tell me my lover why do you still cry, when you are lost seek refuge in I. The gods will bless us together when we die, so come my beloved seek peace in you and In I"
The singing lady turned to know who the other singer was and she asked "You know this song?"]
Medusa replied and said "Yes, when i was a child my mother will sing it all day long"
The lady smiled and said "Who are you?"
" I am Medusa" she replied, Medusa was shocked that the blind lady did not show sign of resentment or fear when she heard the name
"My name is Viviene, I am the owner of this house and you are welcome to stay"
This was the first time in a long time that Medusa was treated nicely, or was treated as a human at all and for some reason that made her happy
"Thank you"
"So where are you from?" she asked
"I'm from out of town, just got here. Never truly had a place i call home"
"Why is that you say,?"
"Sometimes when you travel around you see the hearts of people around you and you realize that seeing is a curse"
"You can see with more than your eyes" Viviene said as she finished folding her clothes and moved towards closer to Medusa
"Sometimes even the nicest people can be monsters" Medusa said as she sat down and faced the window
"Maybe so, but how do you see yourself then Medusa"
"I don't knwo anymore"Viviene held Medusa's hand and said softly "At the end of the day it doesn't matter how others see you, it only matters how you choose to see yourself"
Viviene offered Medusa something to drink and Medusa said yes, while Viviene was pouring Medusa a drink, she reflected on Viviene's words, was she just seeing herself as the monster the gods had cursed her to be? had she forgotten who she was before the curse? She could not know. All she knew was that she was happy with Pellissa, and Pellissa made Medusa feel human, Pellissa made Medusa feel alive.Viviene presented her with the drink, and she sat that next besides her. They chatted for a while, Viviene asked Medusa about herself, and everything that led her to Rye, that was the name of the village she was in. Medusa told her everything but left out the parts where she was a monster that turned people who look at her to stone.
Medusa asked about the people, Medusa asked about if everyone is blind how they get things done in the village and how does everything function?
Pellissa answered her questions and told her the history of the Village, she told her the story about a blind king who came to Rye to die but ended up finding people who understood him. The King Rye was nourished by the men he found in the village and then he gave up up his fortune so the blind people from all across the land could find refuge, could find peace here, the village was named after the King when he died. The sighted men taught the people how to perform daily tasks and they passed it down for generations. Viviene explained that has always been the way of the Rye people and she hopes it never changes. Medusa was amused by the story and she was quite curious about the story so she asked about the king. She wished to know how the king became blind and how did he become blind.
Pellissa told her that no one knew what he was running from and why he became blind, she also told her that some people thought he was running from something or looking for acceptance but it was all a bunch or he said she said. Medusa asked no more questions and wished to see more of the village of Rye, she needed to see her way of life.
