The grand hall was full of masked dancers, twirling and parading around in their expensive ball gowns.  The men wore black suits with simple masks that covered their eyes, only to be told apart by the colour of their chosen ties.

The girls however, had decided to go all out; each and every girl wore a different mask, in every colour you could ever imagine. Each mask was an amazing shape that hid their identity. Their dresses where long and beautiful; sweeping across the perfectly polished floor, as they danced gracefully with their chosen partners.

The deep decorations of the hall were breath-taking. Long strips of 'silk and satin hung from the ceiling and walls in the deepest blues imaginable. The lights were dimed low, allowing the small glow of the twinkling lights to cast effect across the floor. Glitter clung to every surface, making the hall look as if it were inhabited by fairies. It was a truly beautiful sight, and I was about to make it a living hell...

I smoothed down my dress, a small black number complete with a tight lace corset, and placed my mask over my eyes. Unlike the other girls I kept things simple, because let’s face it, everyone would know who I was anyway. I looked down at my leather heeled boots. Every other girl in there would be delicate and princess like, and I was about to storm in rock chic...

I took a deep breath and walked confidently into the grand hall, the music was loud yet elegant as people danced. I sat on top of an unoccupied table and swung my legs. I wasn't about to change for a bunch of snobby teens. A tall blond boy walked past, eyes fixed on me. And as the minutes past I realised he wasn’t the only boy whose attention I had snagged. I smiled effortlessly, my deep red lipstick complimenting my pale complexion. I also noticed I was getting many unpleasant stares from the teachers scattered around the hall, but I didn’t care. I stood and pushed my way through the crowd. Girls mumbled as I barged past, my lips held my amused smirk.

Here in this snob fest, after a total of 11 years, I had only made two friends. And that two was about to become one......

I had Amy in my sight. Her beautiful blond hair cascading over her shoulders in ringlets. Her dress was long and glorious. The pink satin hugged her modal figure, flowing over her body and down to the floor. The gold embroidery complimenting her bright blue eyes, which shone clearly through the holes in her mask. Even with her attempts to hide who she was I couldn’t mistake her; the eyes where a dead giveaway. And even so; if the girl wasn’t Amy I knew the boy stood beside her all the same.

Tall and muscular with dark brown mussed hair, a simple black mask with a trim of gold around the edges and a gold tie to mach. I had spent my years looking up to this boy, this gorgeous amazing boy. And I was sick of having to keep my distance. Just because he was taken, I was different. Just because I was one of them...

He smiled at me as I approached them, if he only knew what I was about to do...I touched his arm gently as I smiled up at him, I could feel Amy’s eyes burning  into my back, it only made my smile wider. “Hay Luke” I wrapped my arms around him, holding him close. He returned the hug then took a step back holding me at arm’s length. “Wow, Amelia if I’m honest I didn’t expect you to attend.” His smile was warm and captivating, making me weak at the knees. “You look amazing!” I laughed and he dropped his arms. “Not quite as exquisite as Amy in her number though...” I turned and smiled at her as her cheeks reddened.

It wasn’t that I didn’t like her; she had been there for me as much as Luke had. But she had something I wanted. “Your dress Amelia, it’s interesting.” She smiled at me, pulling Luke to her flush. “I like it.” My smile faltered a little, but I couldn’t show my discomfort, not yet anyway. Some one behind me wrapped their arms around my waist pulling me close; they leaned their head down a little and began to nibble on my ear purring slightly. I giggled and pulled my head away staring straight at Luke. “Luke, Amy you both know Chester.” He smiled up at them both his hands resting on my hips. Luke’s smile fell from his lips as he stared coldly at me. “He’s my date for tonight.” Chester spun me around and kissed my cheek. “Come on babe let’s dance.” Luke shook his head slightly as we walked off into the crowd. Oh I intended to dance all right, and everyone was going to watch me.
