"Honey, dear, wake up, it's the Christmas day. You've got to search for presents." called up Edison and David's mother. "Oh yes! By the way, is David awake yet?" asked Edison.
"Yes, dear, his friends had called him for a small Christmas Party, and he's out. He'll be back soon enough for enjoying the party that will be conducted in our home in the evening! We'll also be out a bit later to visit Aunt Maria. We've got to enjoy the TWENTY FIFTH OF DECEMBER!" said Edison's mother very cheerfully.
"Coming mom, but wait, let me search for my present." said Edison.
He searched for his present everywhere in his room but his eyes couldn't find one. He went to the living room when he remembered he and his brother had hanged socks and Santa's hat by the fireplace. He searched every sock and the two hats, but all were empty. He had started to feel worried now, "I've not got any present, mom!" Edison said in a shaky voice, and without waiting for one more minute, he went upstairs and entered his room. He realised he already had tears in his eyes. He could feel that his ears were hot and red. He was kind of furious with Santa.
"Why didn't he give me any presents? Am I too old for that? I'm only ten." Edison exclaimed. He was true.
Even if he knew Santa wouldn't come to his home at eight o'clock in the morning to give him his gift, he waited for another thirty minutes. Then he was so irritated and furious, that he picked up the black shiny torch on his bedside table and hit it hard repeatedly on the table. It broke severely. It shattered into pieces and stewed all over the floor. Edison knew that the torch was already destroyed. It wouldn't work anymore, but, his anger prevented him from stopping. He continued hitting it. He was screaming loudly now. He was going berserk.
"What happened, kiddy? What's wrong with you?" asked Edison's mom, she was really anxious now. And it was natural! Nobody would like her son to go berserk on the Christmas Day. She said, "Search properly, kiddo, and even if you have not got a gift, there's a lot to enjoy. And now who'll clean this mess up? I'll do it. Of course. Come on, enjoy the environment of Christmas. Anyway, have you heard any bell ring last night?" questioned Edison's mother. Edison was still weeping. He said, "Yes."
His mother answered, "Then you must have got a present. Anyway, Mr Smith, come on let's bake cookies! Shall we?"
“Don't call me Mr Smith! I'm not that big.” Edison said.
“I was joking, kiddo!” and she walked away to prepare the kitchen for the cookie-baking session. Edison came to the living room sorrowfully and sat on the sofa. He didn't have any intention of baking cookies when he hadn't got a present even. He called his friend Sarah and told her to come over, at least that would help him cheer up a bit.
Sarah arrived a while later, and was greeted warmly by Mrs Smith. After chit-chatting for a long time, their conversation turned to 'what they got as a present from Santa today'. "Santa is the worst person I've ever known. He hasn't given me anything today!" exclaimed Edison angrily.
"Don't tell about Santa like that, Edison, maybe he has hidden it somewhere —""I've searched the whole house." interrupted Edison, not allowing Sarah to complete. But did he search carefully enough?
