Eddie was suddenly awoken by the telephone ringing in the kitchen. He shot up out of his sleeping bag and looked around him. Richie lay at his side, fast asleep. Eddie couldn't help but snicker as he snored loudly. He heard a rustling and turned his head to see Ben shuffling out from underneath his pile of blankets, heading to pick up the phone.

As the ringing echoed through the house, Ben was unable to make it in time before the rest of the Losers awoke. Bill slowly sat up in the recliner and squinted out the window.

A snow filled street stared back at him. White as far as his eyes could see, although luckily the blizzard had subsided sometime during the night. The sun shone brightly outside, almost blindingly so as it reflected upon the ice.

"What time is it? I don't think the road has been p-plowed yet," He said, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.

Eddie looked down at his watch. "9:00 on the dot."

"Oh, good. They should have the roads cleared any minute now, then. We should be able to get home within the hour, I think."

Eddie slumped back onto his pillow and sighed, disappointedly recalling last night.

The countdown had begun, and he heard Bev and Mike chanting. He lowered his eyes from the television and watched Richies hands clench beside him. If he didn't know what butterflies felt like before, he most certainly did now. He bit his lip and took a deep breath, preparing himself for their first kiss. I can't believe this is happening.

"Happy New Year!" Beverly and Mike shouted in unison, quickly followed by sleepy grumbling from Stan.

Eddie sat next to Richie, eyes closed and bracing himself. He waited... and waited. Hello? Are you going to do it? He opened his eyes and looked to his side- Richie sat there, eyes dead set on the TV screen, unblinking. His lips were pressed together tightly as he reached to push up his glasses.

People cheered on TV as the camera cut to happy couples surrounded by a rainbow of falling confetti. Oh. Maybe... maybe I misunderstood... maybe it wasn't me after all. He shook his head at himself. Rich has always been the biggest player you've ever known. Not only are you his best friend, but there's no way Richie is-

Eddie snapped back into the next morning as Ben returned to the family room, looking anxious.

"Eds... you didn't call your Mom last night... Did you?"

Suddenly filled with dread, Eddie jumped out of his sleeping bag and ran to the kitchen. Picking up the phone, he swallowed hard.

"Mommy?"

"Just WHAT exactly do you think you're doing spending the night with that Richie Tozier?" She shouted.

He was confused. She's not angry I stayed out all night without calling? No mention of the snow? The medication I missed this morning? Spending the night with a girl here? Why would she be angry about Rich?

Richie sat in Ben's living room with the rest of the Losers, trying to listen in on what was clearly an argument between Eddie and his mother. Everyone figured it was because they had fallen asleep before warning Ms. Kaspbrak Eddie wouldn't be home all night. Richie's father was a handful to deal with, but he knew it was nothing compared to the hell Eddie was getting right now.

Stan broke the silence hanging in the room. "So... how long do you think she's going to try to keep him from seeing us this time?"

Richie's heart sank. Fuck. I didn't even think about that. His whole body was suddenly filled with rage at the thought of that woman keeping them apart.
