You smiled at Spinel, finding your way to your feet. She's smiling back up at you with the most wholesome smile you'd ever seen. She blinks and twirls an end of a pigtail in her fingers, silence falling upon the both of you for a moment.
You stretch your arms and feel your back satisfyingly pop in the process. "We'd better go before it gets too much later," You tell her. Spinel raises a brow.
"You're... coming with me, Y/N?"
"Well, yeah? You think I'd just let you go by yourself?"
Spinel scratches the back of her neck, sending a glance to the floor. "You... really don't care about bein' seen with me..." The gem glances back up at you, met with a smirk splayed across your lips. Spinel clears her throat and stands, sighing lightly before sending another smile your way.
"Th' Diamonds might be a little confused," She laughs nervously, pink eyes avoiding you. "Y'know, that I'm spendin' more time here... With a human."
You shrug, holding your palms out right-side up. "Well, let them be. Personally, I'm enjoying this time I'm spending with you."
Spinel's eyes find yours again. Softly, she replies, "I'm enjoyin' this too."
Together, the two of you make it out of the house and head up towards Steven's, which is a bit of a ways away. The air has grown cold and crisp in the setting sun. You two fill the time on the walk with small talk. You're telling Spinel all about your best friend Jacqui and how she's always been there for you. Going in great detail about the adventures you two had gone through together, Spinel only walks and quietly listens. That is, until you get to the part about moving to Beach City.
"So, that's why I'm here," You finish, gesturing to the small town ahead.
Spinel huffs slightly. "So... She's your best friend, and you just... left?"
You pause for a moment, slowly realizing what she must be getting at. "Well, yeah, but it's not like that."
"Then what's it like?"
"I still talk to her," You say, realizing halfway that you hadn't even texted her today... like you said you were going to. Of course, you don't let Spinel know that. "I'm still on the same planet as her, we can always just call each other. And I can visit whenever."
"Yeah, but are you actually going to?"
You are slightly taken aback by that. Still walking, you scoff lightly. "What's that supposed to mean?" Honestly, you're kind of offended.
Spinel shakes her head, twin tails swishing back and forth atop her head. "What I mean is, I hope you're nothin' like Pink." She spits out the last word, as if it were poison in her mouth.
You narrow your eyes at the gem beside you. "Yes, Spinel, because that's what I do. I leave people behind without caring like they're garbage. You're exactly right."
"Are you bein' sarcastic?"
"And are you being serious right now?" You're in town now, definitely less than 5 minutes away from Steven's house, Diamond ship still parked in front. You stare at Spinel in bewilderment. How could she say those things about you?
"L-Look, Y/N, that's not what I meant-" Spinel stops in her tracks, stuttering an explanation to you. "I jus'... I been in her place before. It really hurts, Y/N. I don't really think you'd do what Pink did... I... I hope not. You seem like a decent human, please don't get me wrong."
