I woke up with a shriek. The cold water splashed on my face reflexively causing me to jolt upright.
My insufferable brother was standing over my wet body with half a jar of water. The other half effectively blending in with sweat I was already drenched in prior to his foolish, most agitating way to wake me."What the hell, Adrian?" I fumed, throwing my hands up in anger.
He simply waved me off, unfazed by my tantrum. "You know; other people are woken by their nightmares, I don't understand how you oversleep." He looked at me with feigned disbelief. It only angered me more.
"Other people are woken up normally." I counter. Not trying to hide the annoyance in my voice.
"Now, now. Don't be dramatic." He said with his hand up as if to block further argument. "You were already swimming in your own sweat, which is gross by the way." He adds.
"W-well... Well..." I tried to resort, failing miserably.
"Well it's six thirty. You have 30 minutes to get ready or you taking the bus to school." He was already advancing towards the door, carrying that goddamned jar of water, not caring to wait for my answer.
He didn't have to tell me twice. As soon as he disappeared out the door I sprinted towards my bathroom. Opting to take a shower, I rushed in – not bothering to wear a shower cap since sweat already shrunk my hair. Five minutes later I ran out the shower, careful not to fall face first on the floor.
I carelessly lathered lotion on my body while simultaneously stuffing books and notes in my backpack.Thankfully I had picked out my outfit the day before, which proved to save me a lot of time. I made a mental note to do that every night.
I don't have time to blow dry my hair so I pull it into a high puff and squeal when I get it right on the first try. I ripped off my bed covers from my bed to allow my bed to dry during the day, hoping mom sees them and puts them in the washer before going to work.
I sprinted to the kitchen, but not before grabbing my cellphone and backpack with me. I unintentionally left loud footsteps in my wake as I ran down the stairs.
"Whoa, slow down. Who do you think you are, the Hulk?" I roll my eyes at my brother's unnecessary comment, still angry at him for his stunt earlier.
"You should really get a hang of yourself."
Ah... My precious Conscience was up. 'Good morning to you too, Kade. I'm fine thanks for asking.' I thought to myself.
"Your brother's right. No running in the house kiddo." Dad lightly scolds. He gives mom a kiss on the cheek and I roll my eyes at him. I'm not seven anymore. Good God!"Careful Querida."
I ignore Kade and reach for the sandwich mom gives me– yes, mom still makes our lunch. On our defence there was no stopping her, she wouldn't hear it– and stuff in my my bag. Dad takes his and a bottle of water before heading out.
"Depois Familia." He calls.
"Bye Dad." Me and Adrian say together causing mom to smile at us.
"Five minutes to have breakfast, Ed. A minute more and I'll leave." Adrian says. He grabs his sandwich and an apple before he leaves.
"Poor Adrian. Keeping up with you must be exhausting. You're as slow as a snail going through a jar of peanut butter."
'I'm not!' I think as I slurp cereal in the most unladylike manner.
"Take it easy Ed. You know he won't leave you." Mom says.
I don't have time to tell mom it wasn't the time to test her theory so I grab my backpack and shove my phone in my back pocket and give her a milky kiss on the cheek.I find Adrian revving the engine of his car, a signal that he was going to leave me. I run in and shut the door. "Look who made it." He mused. I gave him a sheepish grin.
"Let's go."
