It was early morning, about seven, when Hau's alarm began to blare non-stop. The now nineteen year old kahuna still hadn't gotten used to waking up early. He wondered constantly how his grandfather had done it. He pressed the off button aggressively a few times, before he sat on the bedside, Raichu curled up and asleep on his tail at the end of said bed. Normally, Hau would hit the snooze button, and he'd have continued to sleep, but today was different. Today he was going on a date, he'd decided. He just hadn't.. asked the other person yet.
As he got ready to get in the shower, he lost himself in his thoughts. Him and Gladion had been friends for a long while now, or at least, in his eyes. People had asked them before if they were dating, and they'd laughed it off together. They were close enough that they took dating to be a joke, but Hau couldn't tell if that was a good or bad thing in his situation. He'd realized he loved Gladion when he himself were sixteen, and Gladion was 17. The older boy really began to take everything he did seriously. His grades shot up, his relationship with all of his friends got better, he even began to try and reconnect with Lusamine, which nobody thought was possible. Hau loved his new attitude, and his soft hair. He snapped himself back out of his daydream quickly, shook his head and turned off the shower. He raced back to his room, got dressed, and ran out of the house.
Footsteps echoed through the metallic paths of the Aether conservation area, and pokemon frolicked around at will. A pair of emerald green eyes scanned every inch of the area they could see, sighing out of relief when they realized how harmonious everything had become. Everything had finally died down, and the blond finally had time to himself. He fixed the front of his suit jacket, loosening it slightly as he sat on a bench near the sealed area for grass type pokemon. Silvally trudged close to his side and handed him a bag of what Gladion assumed was breakfast that he held in his mouth. He smiled at his partner, before the realization dawned on him. "Silvally, where'd you get this..?" he questioned as he cautiously looked over the bag. "From me!" A cheer filled voice chimed from a few feet in front of him. He lifted his head, and his nervous expression changed to a soft smile. "You dork. You brought me food?" "Yeah! Lillie said you've been puttin' off eating lately cause you're so busy, and I know you don't waste gifts, so that's a gift! You gotta use it for what it was intended for, so eat." The slightly shorter man sighed, moving over on the bench and tapping the spot next to him lightly. Hau happily accepted the invitation and sat next to him as he unfolded the top of the bag. "Malasadas?" He laughed quietly. Hau shrugged, and laughed along with him. "You know I'm physically incapable of getting anything else this early." "Not true. I've seen you drink coffee at seven in the morning." "Okay, but coffee isn't food nunoao." The older boy playfully rolled his eyes at the childlike insult and took a malasada out of the bag, then handed it back to Hau. "You can have the other one, I'll be ok with one." "Promise?" "I promise." He smiled softly, and bit into the sweet malasada his friend had bought him. Hau sat there, admiring the man he sincerely wanted to hold, right then and there. The pokemon cries were the only noise that disturbed the silence of the conservation area for a good while as the men ate. Hau contemplated how to ask the question on his mind, and even if he should. What if he really did think they were only friends? What if it wasn't meant to be? The kahuna didn't notice his gaze drift toward the floor, but his friend immediately picked up on it. "Hau, what's wrong?" He asked with concern in his voice. Hau shook his head, just smiling as he looked up at him. "It's nothing." "Don't lie to me. You sound off." The younger man fixed his hair back softly and sighed. "I have somethin' to ask you..." "Yeah, I thought so. Go ahead, I'm all ears." He softened his eyes and smile, looking at the younger man as he began to speak again. "...I wanted to know if.. maybe you'd like to.. go out for dinner..? Someday.. as.. more then friends.." His voice got softer with every word he spoke, and the older boys eyes widened. "Hau, are you serious?" There was no anger in his voice, just excitement, and a joyful echo. "Y-yeah! I'll assume that's a yes then?!" "Yeah! God, Hau I'd love to." The blonds grin spread further across his face, and the two just laughed quietly. "Does tonight work? Or tomorrow, or-" "Tonight is great, Hau. You just text me the details, ok?" "Of course! I- I'll see you!" The easily excited man ran back out of the conservation area with a blush on his face, and his heart beating faster then it ever had before. Gladion smiled to himself, as a blush creeped up on him as well. He looked back at the bench, and held back tears before looking at his partner pokemon. "Hah.. he was so happy he even left his malasada.. Guess I'm more important than that thing huh..?" He laughed quietly as he strode back to his room.
"Relax, Hau. What, is this like, your first date ever?" Moon teased as she fixed her overly nervous friends shirt collar. "No-! But it's my first date with him.. I wanna make a good impression, y'know..?" He muttered in response, staring softly at the ground. The short girl stifled her laughter. "He already adores you, idiot. He said yes to the date, didn't he?" She raised an eyebrow at him and motioned for him to take a deep breath. The kahuna followed his friends motion, which allowed him to breath more calmly. He felt his face become less warm, although his heart hadn't stopped fluttering since the moment Gladion accepted his date invitation. Moon stepped back, looking over the taller man from head to toe, then nodding to herself. "You look amazing. Now, where are you guys going for dinner?" "Uh.. Sushi high roller.." He smiled, trying to regain his confidence and make his voice less shaky. Moon nodded, putting her hands on the shaking mans shoulders. "Listen to me. Hau, he loves you for you. Don't try to be all sophisticated or act different, ok? Be yourself." She smiled brightly and giggled softly. Hau repeated her giggle, a smile also spreading on his face. "Thank you Moon. I will."
Gladion is standing outside the restaurant in Malie City that Hau had told him to meet at. The blond man, wearing something not very different from his work clothes, meaning still very formal looking, scrolled through different things on his phone while he waited for his date to show up. He was still surprised that Hau had asked him out, since really, he was planning to do the same eventually. He had just never worked up the courage. Looking up from his bright screen for a second, he saw Hau approaching him, and he couldn't help but chuckle from the younger mans outfit. "Hau, what in the world are you wearing-?" He scanned him head to toe as he put his phone into his jacket pocket. "What? It's just more formal wear-" "It's weird to see you with pants instead of shorts." "Yeah, I got that from Moon too." The two laugh among themselves, and blush when their eyes meet, as they look back at each other. "Should.. we..?" Hau pulls open the door for his date, kissing his head as he motions him in. "Yeah-! C'mon. It'll be sweet."
