The girl in the attic

Chapter 29

Preston’s POV

The kiss was just starting to pick up pace when we heard a knock at the door. My whole body ached to ignore it but Katie pulled away with an alarmed expression on her face.

“Hide,” I whispered softly as we both got up from the bed. I waited until Katie was in the bathroom and then walked over and opened my bedroom door. I already knew who it was going to be, the question is what she wanted.

“Yeah,” I said as I opened the door. My irritation was clear in my voice and to be honest I really didn’t care if I came across as being rude.

“I just wanted to let you know that it’s my weekend off. I’ll be leaving tomorrow morning and coming back Sunday afternoon,” she stated looking taken aback. The hatred that I felt for her must have been clear in my eyes.

“Ok,” I said and then I closed the door in her face. I doubted that she would complain about me by my aunt and uncle and to be honest I was past the point of caring.

I locked the door again not trusting her and walked over to the bathroom. I thought that Katie would come out as soon as I closed the door and when she didn’t I automatically started to panic.

“Katie,” I called softly knocking on the door.

“Come in,” she whispered back her words breaking as she said them. I pushed open the door and saw her sitting curled up against the wall.

“Are you ok?” I asked running over to her and falling down on the floor in front of her.

“I don’t know,” she answered looking up at me.

“I’m taking you back to the hospital,” I said scooping her up in my arms. I couldn’t stand seeing her in so much pain, the look on her face was killing me on the inside.

“No, I want to stay here,” she pleaded looking at me with her big tear filled brown eyes.

“Katie,” I whispered back not wanting to say no to her but really wanting to take her to the hospital.

“Please Preston. You can take me to the hospital tomorrow. Please just let me stay here with you tonight,” she begged breaking my heart and my resistance.

I shook my head in defeat and walked over to my bed placing her down on it gently.

“How are you feeling now?” I questioned sitting down next to her my heart still racing in my chest.

“Better,” she answered smiling at me.

“Come on Katie, please just let me take you to the hospital,” I begged taking her hand in mine.

“Not now, you can take me back when they have my test results,” she replied calmly

“Ok, but promise me you’ll tell me if the pain gets worse again,” I said still wishing that she would change her mind.

“Promise, now stop worrying and give me the remote,” she stated changing the subject. I couldn’t help smiling at her as I handed her the TV remote.

She switched it on and flipped through the channels until she found one showing cartoons. She seemed to like it and turned up the volume.
