Darkness.
Pain.
Where am I? I try lifting my head, but am greeted by overwhelming pain. I groan as I set my head gently on the ground, my normally straight brown hair disheveled. What happened? I turn my body over so that I am looking up. A daunting tunnel going straight up greets me, with a light at the top that illuminates my surroundings with a faint glow. Did I fall from there? How am I still alive? I shift and stretch, my hand touches something... someone.
I try to lift my head once more, this time slower. There is still pain, but I deem it bearable. I carefully get up, trying to keep my groans quiet. Who knows what's down here? Once standing, I clutch my head until it stops ringing, my vision clearing. Looking over at the figure who was laying next to me, I see that it is a boy with brown hair darker than mine, a black T-shirt, jean jacket, light green shorts, and white tennis shoes. He looks familiar, but I can't seem to remember his name or if we ever met. Wait. I don't remember... anything. Probably has something to do with this ghastly headache I'm experiencing.
I try to shake the boy awake. Maybe he'll remember something? His eyes open, looking at me with confusion. "What's going on?" He says in a soft, strained voice. He flinches as he tries to get up, me hovering over him. I feel no need to answer him, my words would only complicate things.
He manages to sit up, not making a sound, but his face tells me everything. He was in pain, same as me. He sits there, squinting at me for a moment before he decides to speak up. "Who are you?" He asks. I stand there, going through my thoughts for some sort of answer to his question, but I find no hint of my name in my memory. I decide to make one up. "Les." I say, thinking that the name sounds nice.
I don't ask for his name, I feel that he will tell me without prompting. He squints again, but soon gives me a friendly smile. "My name is Jaiden, and what the heck is going on?" He says with a silly demeanor. I shrug and look at my surroundings while he struggles to stand. We are in a dark corridor with a faint light at the other end. I see the outline of a very elaborate stone archway.
Might as well go there as it seems there is no other way to go. I start walking towards the purple door and see Jaiden coming up from behind me. "Where do you think we are? This place looks creepy and awesome at the same time." He says excitedly. He sounds like a little kid going on an adventure, this isn't a game! I give him a stern look that explains my thoughts. "Oh come on, stop being so serious, this could be fun!" He says as we reach the door. I sigh. I have to deal with this guy? Great.
I hesitantly open the door and see a little goat kid standing there with a cute look on his face. He's standing in the middle of a white light coming from the ceiling somewhere. "Hello there kids! Welcome to the underground. It seems you have fallen!" The little goat kid says cheerfully. Jaiden's eyes light up. "Isn't that the cutest little thing ever?" He whispers in my ear, standing beside me. I shrug.
"My name is Asriel! I am here to teach you how things work around here! Are you ready?" He asks, wearing an innocent smile. Something feels off about this guy... "Super ready!" Jaiden yells, pumping his fist into the sky. Everything goes dark and a red heart appears in front of me, I turn to see that a light green heart was in front of Jaiden.
"See that heart? That is your soul, the very culmination of your being! Your soul is weak from your fall, but it can grow stronger with enough LV. What is LV? Why love of course! You don't have any love right now, but don't worry, I'll share some with you!" He says, giving us a warm smile. Five big red balls that kinda look like fire hover above Asriel. "Down here, love is shared through... big red... 'balls of friendship.' Ready? Here you go!" Asriel says as the big red balls come flying towards our souls. I grimace and double over, clutching my chest as pain erupts from right where my heart would be. "Hey, not cool man! Is that supposed to hurt?" I hear Jaiden say through clenched teeth from my left.
The little goat kid has a demonic grin on his face, his eyes wide as he relishes our pain. "You idiot! In this world it's kill or be killed! This place is filled with monsters, all who'll want to kill you! How would ANYONE pass up on an opportunity like this?" He screeches in an unearthly voice, thousands more of what I assume are fireballs surround us at the ready. "DiE!!!!" He screams, unleashing his fireballs.
Suddenly a wall of fire surrounds us, cancelling out the fireballs. Azriel slumps like a little kid who didn't get his way. "Ugh! Mooooom... why did you stop me?" He says in a whiny, but still demonic, voice. A much larger goat monster walks in, cancelling the darkness that had surrounded us earlier. "Azriel! How many times do I have to tell you not to kill humans! You're taking after your father... go to your room!" She yells, giving him a stern, motherly look. He walks away grumpily, stomping his feet with every step.
She turns to us with an apologetic look on her face. "I'm so so sorry for my son's behavior, he has been acting very odd lately... well, anyways! Do not be afraid, my child. I am Toriel, caretaker of the ruins. I pass through this place everyday to see if someone has fallen down. You are the first humans to come down here in a long time. Come! I will guide you through the catacombs." She says kindly, motioning for us to follow.
I follow hesitantly, not trusting her because of what happened with Azriel. Jaiden on the other hand... he was practically bouncing with excitement about exploring the catacombs.
I guess this IS the start of an adventure...
That was the longest. chapter. I have. EVER. made. phew! I hope to keep up these 1000+ word chapters for this book, especially because (if you haven't already noticed) Les (or Frisk) isn't very talkative, so she pays more attention to detail. Another thing, if you haven't played Undertale or you are kinda in the middle of it somewhere, no worries!! There aren't really spoilers because I changed the plot of Undertale DRASTICALLY. Even if there are some spoilers, you wouldn't know unless you already played the game.
Have a wondiferous day! - Aurora oowut!!
