The tea kettle shrilled loudly throughout the house. My eyes sprang open and my body jumped, causing my heartbeat to quicken. I looked around my room and remembered where I was. There were brown moving boxes spread out around the room and unfinished boxes. I laid in bed thinking about the last couple of months. How my dad got a new job at the Liverpool docks which made us have to move from our home in Chester. Liverpool wasn't too far from Chester but enough for me to have to say goodbye to my old life. It was hard to leave but exciting to start on a new chapter in my life
I pulled my lavender covers off of me and headed towards my vanity.
"Okay...you got this." I said to myself in the mirror.
I flipped on my light and began to get ready for my first day at Quarry Bank High School. I chose slipped on my student uniform and my new shoes. I brushed my long hair and headed to the kitchen.
"Good morning love." said my mom.
"Good morning" I said to my mom and dad.
"Are you nervous for today?" my mom asked with a concerned look on her face.
"Not really...Im actually quite excited" I replied with a brave smile.
"Well thats good darling" my dad said and left to get ready for work.
I turned to the fruit basket and picked up an apple and said goodbye to my mom.
"Be safe!" my mom called out to me as I headed out the door.
"I will!" I hollered back.
I started down the wet cobblestone side walk to the bus stop. My mind was racing. I was so excited to meet new people. When I got to the bus stop I was the only one. Then, a boy who looked around my age followed by another boy, walked over to the bus stop. The first boy was tall and had brown hair that was quiffed up. The second boy was a bit smaller and had blonde hair quiffed up as well. I noticed that they had the same school uniforms as I did making my heart palpitate.
'Do they go Quarry Bank as well?' I thought to myself.
After some time the bus finally came. As I was about to get on the bus, the brown haired boy and I bumped into each other.
"Oops sorry" I said
"It's okay, ladies first" he said
I climbed onto the big bus and sat near the back. The two boys then came and sat a few rows behind me. The bus ride was quiet for me but loud and lively for the two boys sitting behind me.
"Ah Im sure she'll come around for you Pete" one of the boys said.
"Easy for you to say Lennon, she already did for you" said the other
After that I tuned the boys out and watched the buildings go by. The bus came to a screeching stop next to the school. I grabbed my bag and headed towards the door. As soon as I stepped out of the bus my heel broke causing me to fall.
CRACK
"OOF!" I exhaled as I met the groundd.
I could hear some peoples reactions but didn't let it bother me.
"HA! Oh are you okay?" asked the brown haired boy as he helped me up.
I started to laugh, "Yeah, thank you"
"Oi Pete! See ye later" he waved to his friend as he helped me to a nearby bench.
I continued to laugh as I sat on the bench. The brown haired boy looked at me with a confused smile.
"Whats so funny?" he asked.
"Well its my first day here and I already broke a heel and just fell in front of everyone!" I said calming down my laughter.
"Strange bird" he said laughing.
I pulled out a pair of flats that I alway keep in my bag and threw the heels away in the trash next to the bench.
"Damn...and I just bought 'em too" I said to myself.
I had totally forgot about the boy who helped me until I felt his stare on me. I looked up and smiled.
"Thank you for helping me" I said standing up.
"Oh no problem" he said standing up from the bench and meeting my gaze.
"Whats your name?" he asked.
"Heather. Heather McClain" I said shaking his hand.
"And you?" I asked looking into his eyes.
"John. John Lennon"
