Cade had convinced the flight attendant to slip something into Ginny's drink before also convincing her to give him another seat, far away from Ginny's.

The drug would keep Ginny asleep until they landed, and if he was lucky, until he was a safe distance from the airport.

The lights in the Economy Class cabin were turned off and all the passengers were asleep, but Cade couldn't sleep, his head was full of all the horrible things he'd saw and done over the past few years.

His mind wandered back to the day―after years of searching―he'd found Scarlet Limoux.

She'd resided in a small town near Seattle, with her adoptive parents and sister, that much he knew. He just didn't understand her, or her story. He had no soft spot for her though―quite the contrary actually.

To Cade, she was just another unappreciative, tantrum-throwing child. He only respected and appreciated her because of her power. She was among the most powerful of supernaturals he had ever encountered―and he had met many. It was possible she was even the most powerful.

When Cade had found her, she didn't seem to be cognizant of how powerful she was.

He had kidnapped her, but hadn't felt a pang of guilt until today; when he met Ginny.

His sister Sloane had assisted him, she'd known it was important. But Sloane had gone behind his back to try and quicken the process, and Scarlet had escaped. It hadn't surprised him though, Sloane had been stupid for going behind his back like that. His sister was powerful, but Scarlet was crazy talented. She was also unpredictable and insane. She didn't know the depths of her own powers. Normal people would have tried to help her come to terms with her own abilities, but Cade despised her simply because she didn't appreciate her abilities. He appreciated them though.

As soon as he'd found out Scarlet had escaped, he had gone looking for her, aided by his pathetic lackeys, but that had all been nearly a year ago, and he'd hadn't seen her since.
