I wrote this poem for a prompt. It was: "If I should have a daughter". It's still a work in progress because I need to increase it to 1000 words for Wattys 2020!

Enjoy!

If I should have a daughter I will sing my heart out to her,

The wondrous melodies wrapping themselves around her little heart

Teaching it to beat.

And I will make her feel so loved, that... hate? What hate?

Those disgusting, horrendous, torturous words and emotions

Will never enter her little heart

I will be strong for her, so she can embrace resilience with open arms

Because in this world we need to be ready.

If I should have a daughter, I will treat her as my queen.

Provide her with thousands and thousands of riches

So she can step into a whole new world armed with the knowledge and wisdom

Of thousands and thousands of years.

Her hair will twist and turn, dripping in bouncy tendrils of voluminous curls

And she will be wrapped head to toe in glittering gems, sapphires, rubies, emeralds and more!

When she enters a room she will be the star,

Shining so bright that she will be the one to shine that spotlight on those who need

And deserve it.

The lights in her eyes will never fade, forever burning bright as the flame of Vesta

And the crinkles on her mouth will forever stay, because she will always smile,

her laughter echoing through the halls of her majesty's palace.
