"Was it a wink like this or like this?" Natalie made a face at Evie, trying to recreate the scene that occurred yesterday.
"The second one." Evie said. "When he did it, it was like he knew that I was staring at him the whole time."
"Well, from the way you described it, it's sounds like you were glued to the man." Amanda added.
"It really sounds that bad huh?" Evie replied, feeling embarrassed from the whole event.
The rest of the night Evie had sneakily watched from her window as Nick unpacked the rest of his things. That night, he had been invited to dinner at her parents house and came. Evie stayed in her room the whole time feeling the embarrassment never fading. She didn't want to eat with him, knowing that she had been caught watching him from her window. The way he had winked at her made her stomach flip and she hated and loved the moment all the same time.
Evie could hear her mother walking up to her room insisting that she come to dinner but Evie made up that she was having cramps. Of course her mom understood her perfectly and left her alone. Someone brought food to her room because she had a tray laying outside her door. When Evie peered outside, she could faintly hear the laughter of the conversation coming from the dining room.
The girls walked down the school hallway, making their way to the lunchroom. Other students were moving through the halls as well. Some were cleaning their lockers out or throwing away papers. Evie met up with her friends once they were finished with their last class.
"Evie, don't worry about, I'm sure he just meant it as a friendly gesture." Amanda soothed her.
"A friendly gesture?" Natalie scoffed, "I don't think so. I'll need to see the guy because he could be a total creep but if he's hot as fuck then he might be into you."
"But, he's like ten years older, right?" Amanda said to Evie.
Evie nodded, biting her lip, "Yes, but there's nothing going to come of it. It was kind of weird but also like hot. And I don't think he's a creep." The image of Nick winking flashed through her mind. She tightened her lips and sighed, "He just caught me checking him out..."
The cafeteria was packed with students as they ate lunch. As they stood in the lunch line Natalie said, "I'm so glad classes are done. I was getting so sick of Davinsky's class."
"I'm ready to get my license so then I can drive you guys around." Evie added. Amanda and Natalie were both born in the fall while Evie was born in the summer. They were a few months older than her and already had their license. She usually road to school with them.
Natalie and Amanda nodded, "Yes!"
"You're party will be fantastic!!" Amanda said. "Your still having a party, right?"
"Of course!" exclaimed Evie. "Just because some aspects of my house are occupied doesn't mean that the entire thing is blocked off. There's plenty of room for the party." She laughed as she said, "Even though it might be a little loud for my guest, that's not going to stop us."
The girls walked towards their table and sat down. Their last day of school was only a half day so after they finished lunch, they were able to leave.
"Guys this summer is going to be great, I just know it." Amanda said bouncing in her seat. "After school, we can take a ride in my car and enjoy the weather. You guys know that this heat isn't even as marvelous as what is about to come? We're going to be so tan!"
"I know," Evie giggled along with her.
Amanda and Natalie had been Evie's friends for several years. They've attended the same school since they were little, but never became close friends until a few years ago. They were the sisters that Evie never had and she trusted them wholeheartedly.
"Okay, here's the plan." Evie said, eating a forkful of food. "You guys can come over in a few days to see the new attraction that's at my house. Then we can lounge out in my pool and enjoy the summer sun. My parents are cool with you coming over, as usual, so nothings really changed except for my new neighbor."

As the bell rang, the girls walked toward Amanda's Mustang. Whenever Amanda got her license, she took Natalie and Evie for rides all over the city. They cruised down the highways, at full speed. The Mustang was a convertible so the girls were able to lift their hands up with the wind whipping their hair.
The girls whooped as they left the school parking lot and headed through the city. Amanda cranked the volume and the girls sang into the wind. The power of the wind was so strong that Evie couldn't hear a single thing the girls were saying. She sat in passenger side, swaying to the music.
They drove into the gated community that Evie lived at. Amanda was waved through when the gatekeeper saw Evie. She pushed her hair back from her face and said hello. Amanda races through the other gated house until they came to Evie's house at the end of the lane. She pulled into the driveway that went behind her house. When Amanda's Mustang approached the backyard, she screeched to a halt.
Evie steadied herself against the dashboard, "Woah. What was that for?"
Her friends eyes were bugging out of her head as Amanda said, "OMG..." She pointed behind Evie's head.
Evie turned to where they were looking. Her new neighbor was swimming in her pool. The girls gawked as the man climbed out of the pool and wiped water from his soaking wet body.
