Setting: Danganronpa AU, this takes place during a class trial. So everyone here is within 16-18 years old.

This wasn't how it was supposed to be. Why did this happen? How did this happen? She was starting to lose her sight of things, the pressure of the situation almost knocking out her memories. She needs to calm down, take a breathing or two, and recall things. Okay, her name is Y/N, age 17, and now she is at ... a familiar place. She's been here before, she's argued in this very trial place a few times ago.

The people around her ... Sara, Joe, Kai, Keiji ... she should focused more. There's something else here. The faces of her deceased classmates staring at her, the faces of her other classmates stared at her, baring a hole in her, like she was transparent, like she was already dead.

"Explain!" The voice split up her thoughts, and she looked at Sara, the person who said that.

"I already did explain it for you, Miss Sara. You're running in circles." the other voice ... Sou? She looked at him, his face blurred and unrecognisable. As if his very face is removed from her mind. She realised she was shaking, and was kneeling on the floor.

"I need to hear it from her. Y/N." Sara's stern voice made her go back into her senses. "Miss Sara—"

"No, Sou. There's so many holes in your testimony, I can clearly see you're lying. Are you trying to get us killed? All evidence points at Y/N. Through the process of elimination, and her alibi is blurry. What is there to protect, Sou?"

"But— Miss Sara, you must be mistaken. There's no way Y/N could kill anyone! She's been helping us through the past trials this whole time, right?! I know her more than you do, I know her more than anyone. She. Could never. Kill. Someone."

"Sou ..." she heard her voice shaking, but it clearly made everyone silent. She stood up again. "Y/N! Thank goodness, you're back to your senses, please tell us that you're not the one who killed Alice. I know you didn't, please, please, back up your story. I know you're innocent." Sou was visibly sweating, and Y/N could only stare at him in silence. He had been the only one who was defending her the whole time, even though he knows the truth. He still tried.

"Hey, Y/N, if I were to die ..."

"Don't be like that, Sou ... I know you won't." She placed a hand on Sou's, smiling to him.

He blushed and hid part of his face with his scarf. "I appreciate your optimism, but in this situation, we couldn't tell what would happen next. Who's going to get sacrificed, who's going to die next." He turned away. Y/N shifted closer to him.

"Then I would rather die in your place."

"Y/N ... how could you say that with a smile? There's no way I'm going to let that happen. I've vowed to protect you, no matter what. Even if I have to die. Even if everyone has to die, I want you to live. If I couldn't make it ... then please live for me." his voice fading with everything sentence, and Y/N could instantly pin point the moment where his voice cracked. Her grip on Sou's hand tighten. "No worries, Shin."

As I will be the one to protect you.

"Y/N ... ?" Sou—no, Shin, shook his head. She remembers him now. Her beloved ... the fog in her head clearing up. "Hey what's with that response? You're about to defend yourself, right? You're waiting for this exact moment to reveal the biggest and most important clue here, right? Hey, Y/N?!" He was starting to panic, and all she did was smile at Sara.

"That's right. I'm the killer."

"Hey, Shin. I love you, you know." Y/N giggled and removed his scarf from his face. "You don't have to hide, I know everything about you. You're not someone who would kill. I know you better than anyone here. My beloved Shin ... is not someone would kill. Even for my sake."

"Why are you saying that?" Sou turned to her. She only smiled. "I, however, will do anything for your sake. I will protect you. That is why I will tell you this; Alice, he's planning to kill you. You know what that means, right?"

Sou's eyes widen. "Y/N, you wouldn't ..."

"I will only tell you that. Now, please rest for the night. We have a big day tomorrow."

"Wait—! It's me! I should be executed!" Sou ran in front of Y/N, spreading his arms in an attempt to defend her. "S-she gave me a hint! But I didn't take it seriously! I could've done something! I didn't do anything, so the blame is on me, please, please don't execute her!"

"Shin ..."

"No, Y/N, you shouldn't die. You couldn't die! Please, you can't die now—! I—!"

"S-shin ..."

"Now is the awaited time everyone was waiting for!"

"From the bottom of my heart, I—"

"It's ..."

"I love—"

"... punishment time!"
