"Come on sweety, please let me have the bed to myself tonight." I begged my little cousin Louis. He looked at me with the corner of his eyes and I didnt miss the mischievious grin he tried hidding with is serious face, then he continued watching his favourite cartoon. Grand ma was taking her nap and I was happy because she needed it. At her age she didnt need to stress herself worrying about things that will only worsen her condition. "Do you have something for me?" He asked with a smile that could melt anyones heart. I wonder who invented cartoons because these days kids no longer socialise with others or have time for anything other than cartoons and my beautiful baby brother was not an exception. I remember the day I set eyes on this little bundle of joy, he was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. "Of course my love," I said "I got you your favourite chocolate bars..." I did even finish my statement when he squealed and jumped on me. Oh how I loved this kid. Sometimes I felt like I was a mother and yes it was momments like this that made me wish I could do more. "You see I really wish to stay up all night, I wont put off the light and I know you dont sleep well with the lights on," He gave me an understanding knod as he peeled open his chocolate bar. "so please baby just this night I really want to study and make you proud my dear." I added with a pleading look. He put a large piece chocolate in his mouth and replied with a voice that told me his mouth so full, " As long as you promise to take me out for an iceem tomowow." As much as I was shocked by his proposal, I gave him the quickest yes and as compensation, he gave me a peck on my cheek and resumed watching his cartoon. Its been five years since he came into my life , I was only fifteen when he was born and my grandma and I raised him. The boy was just too smart for his age, that is why I want to do everything possible to make him live a comfortable life. A knock from the door brought me back to where ever my thoughts had taken me. "Who is it?" I asked as I nervously made my way to the wooden door. When I opened the door, a huge man with a small, oval face, dressed in a twisted blue T-shirt and dirty jean trousers held a small envelop up to me. "Miss this is for you." He said and put the envelope in my hands. The mailing system in my country was not the best and judging from the way he looked , one could tell he didnt work for any post office. Reluctantly, I took the envelope from his extended hand. "Where is this from sir?" I asked as politely as I could. "Are you miss Brookes?" He asked with a smile on his face, that unconsciously exposed his teeth. "Yes I am" I honestly replied. "Then there is no doubt I mistook the address." He said. " but we dont even have a mailing address..." "yes do not have a mailing address but I was given one and I believe my job here is done," Said the huge man with a small frown. "and you shall have all the answers to your questions when you read the contents of the envelope." He said almost as if he was talking to himself as he left me standing speechless. "Melo? Who was that?" Queried the small form holding my hand. "No idea baby go back inside, I'll make you your favourite snack. "Youpi!!" He screamed. Fruit salad was the only thing appealing enough to divert his attention. I had never sent a letter to anyone and never have I recieved any, so the folded envelope in my pocket gave me chills and set my mind spinning. I made sure I gave my baby brother his fruit salad, and after that I spent my evening and night wondering if I should read the contents of the envelope. The strangely formal envelope was driving me crazy.
