❝ We're only friends and maybe that's all we can be, because he's madly in love with her, and frankly, I don't blame him— she's everything that I could never be. So, you know what, this is me being alright with loving him from a far, least that way he can still be mine too. ❞

If East High was the ocean, Elizabeth Bedoya was aimlessly drifting around, trying to catch a current that would take her to an island, any island, just as long as it was some place where she could plant her feet. Just some place to belong in the sea of teenagers chatting and lockers slamming. A sea where emotions ran high daily, where the Taco Tuesdays were the highlight of Lizzie's week and where relationships were tides, always coming and going.
It wasn't as if Lizzie hadn't tried to find her place, to find a friend or two. She had tried relentlessly. Making conversation with girls she recognised from class in the bathroom over fresh coats of lipgloss. Tried joking around with the boys that played hacky-sack in the courtyard (she had practised for four nights straight for that attempt to fit in) but she could only bounce the colourful sack once on her ankle before it fell, along with her enthusiasm.
Trying wasn't the problem, the problem was that Lizzie wasn't particularly good at anything, and that included making friends. Her parents had always encouraged her to join clubs, the perfect place and excuse to create some friends, and to bond with people over similar interests. Interests shared or faked, or in Lizzie's case, tried interests. She tried basketball. Tried ballet. Tried debate. Tried model UN and even tried the school's Dungeons and Dragons club. The last had been a real pity, for she thought the costumes were so cute.
Now she was in her in junior year and after an uneventful summertime, she's more than ready to step back into the shadows of the hallways at East High and fly under the radar, however her parents have other ideas. With college looming, they practically force her into yet another club where she would never quite fit, another extracurricular where she would try her hardest, only to find herself quietly dismissing herself.
So, when the announcement is made that the school will be putting on a musical—High School Musical at that—Lizzie figures swaying in the background would not be so bad to please her parents and well, she was not completely tone-deaf and she had busted some pretty sick moves in her bedroom once or twice.
Joining the cast as a background girl in the chorus was tiring—who knew rehearsals would take place during school and afterwards—which is how her limited free time during a spare is soaked up in the library attempting to finish overdue homework, and Lizzie was not alone. Ricky Bowen was not only the leading man in the musical, but dealing with a lot of family affairs and a recent breakup, which is how he managed to fall asleep on Lizzie's chemistry textbook and how her friendship with the sad and rather lonely boy bloomed.
If only the drama this musical brought Lizzie Bedoya was onstage, but quite the opposite and maybe, just maybe, this was the very island of people she could call a home.

Firstly, I don't own anything in relations to Disney's HSMTMTS. All rights belong to the network and the respected writers. Also, a lot of this wonderful idea goes to stilestastic and Lizzie is the product of her imagination. She has kindly given me the pleasure to bring her ideas to life, so thank to very much Kristyn. I hope I don't let you down!!

Ookay, sorry to the million other stories that I've not completed or even touched in months (again) but I have fallen a little bit in love with Ricky Bowen and have been searching for an idea for such a long time and fate pointed me in the right direction. This is going to be such a ride — think TATBILB, Degrassi & HSM mixed together. It's going to be a fluffy angsty mess and most likely a fast burn that fades quite quickly, so enjoy the ride!!
